About Alejandro Vela:
Praised for his power to carry an audience away by creating an atmosphere of mystery and sensuous beauty, Alejandro Vela is a pianist of Northern Mexican origin
now performing in concert halls worldwide.
Born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Alejandro Vela received his first piano lessons
from his mother, Hortensia Vela Mante, and later in Houston while taking lessons with
Robert Avalon at the Multicultural Education and Counseling Through the Arts (MECA) nonprofit organization and at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA)
He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from The Juilliard School,
where he was a student of Yoheved Kaplinsky.
Open House – May 22nd
Join us Saturday, May 22 from 11am to 1pm for MECA’s Open House.
Come spend the afternoon with us at the Historic Dow School and sample the variety of class offerings in dance, music, visual art and more!
MECA arts and administrative staff will be on site to answer questions about MECA programs and performances scheduled for the 2021 season.
