Governor Abbott Fires Back At U.S. Attorney General Garland’s Response To Executive Order GA-37

0

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement responding to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s letter regarding Executive Order GA-37, which restricts the transportation of unlawful migrants in Texas due to COVID-19.

“It is clear that the Biden Administration fundamentally misunderstands what is truly happening at the Texas-Mexico border. The current crisis at our southern border, including the overcrowding of immigration facilities and the devastating spread of COVID-19 that the influx of non-citizens is causing, is entirely the creation of the Biden Administration and its failed immigration policies. By choosing not to enforce immigration laws, removing sound policies like the Remain in Mexico program, and failing to make the most robust use of Title 42 authorities, this Administration has directly caused the unprecedented crisis Texas is facing. And it is increasingly a matter of grave public-health concern as unlawful migrants enter from countries with lower vaccination rates than the United States.

“It would be of some solace if the federal government was conducting appropriate COVID-19 testing and other mitigation strategies, but to the contrary, we hear too many reports of the federal government recklessly failing to do so and instead of admitting into the United States — and Texas — migrants from over 150 countries, many of whom are testing positive for COVID-19.

“In short, the Biden Administration is jeopardizing the health and safety of Texans on a daily basis by refusing to follow the law. And it’s not just Texans; these irresponsible policies and actions by the Biden Administration are endangering the lives of many Americans as well as the unlawful immigrants themselves. I will take every available step consistent with the law to fulfill my duty to protect the health and safety of all Texans.”

Governor Abbott Joins Pro-Life Amicus Brief In U.S. Supreme Court

0

Governor Greg Abbott today joined a coalition of governors filing an amicus brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a pending U.S. Supreme Court challenge to a Mississippi law banning abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. At issue in the case is whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional. Having signed into law numerous bills that protect unborn babies in Texas, Governor Abbott has a strong interest in seeing that federal judge leave these policy questions to the states.

“The judicial constitutionalization of abortion represents an unwarranted intrusion into the sovereign sphere of the States,” reads the brief. “Returning to the States the plenary authority to regulate abortion without federal interference would restore the proper (i.e., constitutional) relationship between the States and the Federal Government. It also would produce positive results, including letting the democratic process work as intended, deescalating tensions on this divisive topic, and allowing the States to serve as laboratories of democracy for establishing and implementing suitable abortion regulations based on the latest scientific knowledge.”

“The most precious freedom is life itself,” said Governor Abbott. “Our Creator endowed us with the right to life, but millions of children lose that right every year because of abortion. In Texas, we work to spare every child from the ravages of abortion, which is why I am proud to join my fellow governors in protecting the unborn.”

Vicente Fernández – Hoy Platique con mi Gallo

0
Túpele mi gallo
Ora, mi gente
Cántale bonito
Hoy platiqué con mi gallo
Y me dijo tristemente
¿Pa qué me cuidaste tanto
Si hoy me lanzas a la muerte?
¿Pa qué me cuidaste tanto
Si hoy me lanzas a la muerte?
Y yo le dije mi amigo
Aquí en confianza te digo
Por una maldita apuesta
Quieren acabar conmigo
Por una maldita apuesta
Quieren acabar conmigo
Tu deuda voy a pagarles”
Iba a perder a mi amigo
Por la mitad de un centavo
Iba a perder a mi amigo
Por la mitad de un centavo
Mejor me voy con mi gallo
Me regreso pa mi tierra
Allá me espera mi gente
Y a mi gallo su gallera
Allá me espera mi gente
Tu deuda voy a pagarles”

0
Y tú que te creías
El rey de todo el mundo
Y tú que nunca fuiste
Capaz de perdonar
Y cruel y despiadado
De todo te reías
Hoy imploras cariño
Aunque sea por piedad
¿A dónde está tu orgullo?
¿A dónde está el coraje?
Porque hoy que estás vencido
Mendigas caridad
Ya ves que no es lo mismo
Amar que ser amado
Hoy, que estás acabado
¡Qué lástima me das!
Maldito corazón
Me alegro que ahora sufras
Que llores y te humilles
Ante este gran amor
La vida es la ruleta
En que apostamos todos
Y a ti te había tocado
Nomás la de ganar
Pero, hoy tu buena suerte
La espalda te ha volteado
Fallaste, corazón
No vuelvas a apostar
Maldito corazón
Me alegro que ahora sufras
Que llores y te humilles
Ante este gran amor
La vida es la ruleta
En que apostamos todos
Y a ti te había tocado
Nomás la de ganar
Pero, hoy tu buena suerte
La espalda te ha volteado
Fallaste, corazón
No vuelvas a apostar

Hispanic Intermarriage in the U.S.

0

The term Hispanic is a pan-ethnic term that encompasses Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Central Americans, and South America, and consists of citizens and non-citizens.   The largest group is Mexicans. Hispanic intermarriage refers to Hispanics who marry someone who is not Hispanic.

Each succeeding Hispanic generation marries outside the group in larger numbers with the third and later generations marrying out of the group at the highest rate.   It is estimated that 30% of all Hispanic men and 26% of all Hispanic women are married to a non-Hispanic.

Hispanics who are foreign-born are much less likely to marry a non-Hispanic. More than 50% of foreign-born Hispanics marry someone who is also foreign-born Hispanic   Approximately 15% of foreign-born Hispanics married U.S-born Hispanics.

The group with whom Hispanics marry the most are whites, 85%, followed by Blacks, 10%, and Others, 5%.  Approximately 60% of Hispanics consider themselves part of the white race so perhaps their intermarriage rates with whites should not surprise.

Education is also a factor.   Hispanic college graduates tend to have the highest rates of marrying someone who is not Hispanic because the pool of eligible Hispanics shrinks as one moves up the educational ladder.  Consider that Hispanics who earn a college degree are seven times more likely to marry a white person in comparison to Hispanics who have not completed high school.   Also, older Hispanic women tend to marry out of the group more than younger women indicating that the older women cast a wider net.

Hispanic culture does not necessarily die in intermarriage.  Both Hispanic and White women play a greater role in perpetuating the culture especially in the areas of food, holiday traditions, and family.  It is also true, however, that among the children of intermarried couples Hispanic culture tends to fade.

Couples who are married to someone of another race have higher divorce rates, 41 percent, in comparison to couples in same-race marriages, 31 percent.  Interracial couples who married young, less than 26 years of age, are more likely to divorce than interracial couples who married later in life.

The relatively high intermarriage rates among U.S.-born Hispanics mean that they socialize more with whites than with other groups outside of their own.   In many large cities where Hispanics reside there are always Hispanics who are moderately integrated into white neighborhoods, attend predominately white schools, and hence have more opportunities to interact with whites.

Continuous Immigration from Mexico and Central American countries means that there will always be an assimilation process that brings later generations of Hispanics in contact with whites.   Though we also face prejudice and discrimination the intermarriage rates with whites indicate a degree of acceptance that exists among whites.  This, however, should not blind us to those who consider the growing number of Hispanics in the U.S. a threat to their culture and dominance.
