The Latin Recording Academy unveiled information on the upcoming Latin Grammys, announcing that its 21st annual ceremony returns in November with a “music makes us human” theme, Billboard has learned.
Anchored from Miami, Fla., the reimagined telecast will highlight musical excellence and the power of music in times of despair. The event will also showcase diverse stories of hope, community, sense of purpose and celebration.
“This year’s show is a result of great music, carefully curated by almost 4,000 members, skilled staff, and everyone’s commitment to the Latin GRAMMY Awards’ process,” said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., president/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy in an official statement.
Jessica Rodriguez, chief marketing officer and president of entertainment of Univision added: “Music has always been a force that brings our community together and this year more than ever we are proud to celebrate the music that has inspired, uplifted and moved us.
As a result of the global health crisis, the Latin Recording Academy, Univision, and production teams will strictly follow safety guidelines and protocols. The academy, however, will consider hosting a live audience telecast with nominees, presenters, and performers, given the local conditions are favorable at the time of the awards.
The 2020 Latin Grammys will air at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday, Nov. 19 via Univision. The star-studded event will be preceded by the one-hour pre-show “Noche de Estrellas,” held virtually in Miami, where the majority of the categories will be awarded.
Nominees, performers, and more details will be announced at a later date.
HOUSTON – Mayor Sylvester Turner announced today that the City of Houston would allow a limited number of special events beginning this week as long as they are held in a controlled environment and organizers follow strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
The Houston Health Department and the Mayor’s Office of Special Events will carefully review all event requests. Parades, fun runs, walks, biking events, and festivals are on hold through the remainder of the year. “As the pandemic has changed our lives, it has changed how we gather,” Mayor Turner said. “However, we know that there are opportunities to stage social events if they follow current health and safety guidelines and requirements. Approved limited events will: *Start with a small audience, allowing up to 25% of a controlled venue’s normal occupancy. *Ensure that everyone wears masks, practices social distancing, has their temperature checked, and answers the COVID-19 questionnaire upon entry. *The City will work with producers on health and safety protocols for live special events with audiences. The first three approved events include: *On Thursday, the Houston Texans will hold a “Drive-In Tail Gate Party” in their parking lot – 100 cars with four people maximum per car, for potentially 400 people. *The Houston Symphony will stage a concert series in Jones Hall for the Performing Arts. The Symphony will only allow a maximum of 150 guests to attend the performance in a 3,000-seat venue. *The Houston Dynamo and Dash will host their game series for the first time this year with less than 25% capacity of BBVA Stadium.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today released a web video calling on every Texan and candidate for public office, regardless of political party, to sign a pledge against defunding police departments in Texas at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 10th. The Rockets and Lakers traded punches, never showing signs of backing down. The Lakers’ LeBron James was sensational. James Harden answered. Russell Westbrook bounced back. Anthony Davis rolled.
They traded the lead and knockout punches. The Rockets, however, had thrown everything they had at the Lakers. When they had little left with a quarter still to play, the Lakers had reinforcements the Rockets could not handle.
The Lakers turned up their defense during the fourth quarter Tuesday and mixed in a sudden Rondorama, surging to a 12-point lead and taking a 112-102 win at AdventHealth Arena in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for a 2-1 series lead.
“I thought we did a good job, honestly,” Westbrook said. “They had a stretch where (Rajon) Rondo and (Alex) Caruso hit 3s back-to-back, gave them separation. We had some key turnovers in the fourth. For the most part, we can find some good things out of this game.”
There were plenty of good things. The Rockets just could not make them last, seemingly emptying the tank to be tied after three quarters while the Lakers came in waves.
As often as the Rockets say three is more than two, they saw a different version of that math work against them.
While the Rockets had their big two rolling, the Lakers had three stars, with Rondo alone outscoring the Rockets’ bench, depleted with Danuel House Jr. out for personal reasons.
“I think our legs got a little tired,” Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said. “They upped their stuff. Too many 50-50 balls we didn’t get. Too many times we weren’t sharp, we weren’t quick to the ball or quick to a play and it got away from us. And they hit a lot of good, hard shots.”
The stars could not take the win. James finished with 36 points and his four blocked shots in the third quarter set the tone for a defensive effort that would hold the Rockets to 38 second-half points. But James Harden had 33 points with nine rebounds and nine assists.
Anthony Davis had 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting. But Westbrook started fast and finished with 30.
But when the Rockets seemed to tire, Rondo and the Lakers bench swarmed. Rondo scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, most to spark the Lakers’ 10-0 charge to begin the quarter. After 29 ties or lead changes and no lead larger than six points in the first quarter, the Lakers had the run the Rockets could not overcome. They were never within less than eight points again.
“We gave up too many offensive rebounds throughout the course of the game,” Harden said. “Then, that fourth quarter, turned the ball over, not getting great shots. And coming down and (giving up) transition points, that was the game right there.”
Much of that, however, seemed to be because it took so much out of them just to keep pace for so long, with the Rockets getting few easy baskets. The Lakers limited the Rockets’ looks from the 3-point line to just 30 3-point attempts, nine fewer than in Game 1 when they took their fewest of the postseason. They also swarmed to the paint.
Generally stuck in the halfcourt, nothing was easy for the Rockets, even in a sensational first half. While Harden and Westbrook were a combined 24 of 47. The rest of the Rockets, however, made just 14 of 34 shots.
“We can’t play into their strengths and the things they love to do,” Harden said. “And that’s halfcourt, slow the pace up, let them get set, let them meet us at the rim, which I think we did, especially in that second half.
“We weren’t in attack mode. They did a good job of trapping and we didn’t make them pay for it.”
The Rockets made 56.8 percent of their shots during the first half, scoring 36 points in the paint. In the second half, they made just 35.1 percent, scoring 14 points in the paint.
By the fourth quarter, James and Davis needed to score just seven points. But Rondo, Caruso and Kyle Kuzma outscored the Rockets, 23-20, with the Rockets not seeming to have enough left to answer. “I think it’s pretty obvious we just ran out of a little steam there, just didn’t make plays like we did,” D’Antoni said. “It’s good to have Russell back in the sense he played really well. We’ll get our rest. It’s two (games) to one. OK, they got this one. Let’s get the next one.”
The Houston Dynamo earned their third consecutive victory with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City this evening at BBVA Stadium. Goals from Alberth Elis and Mauro Manotas in the final half-hour propelled the Dynamo to the victory.
Kickoff was delayed by 12 minutes due to lightning in the area around BBVA Stadium and a light mist began to fall right at the opening whistle. With the teams squaring off for the third time this season and second time in 10 days, it was a cagey affair early on. Both teams were well aware of the other side’s intentions and appeared determined not to give an inch, leaving chances hard to come by during the first half-hour.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 30th minute when forward Erik Hurtado put a rebound back into the net from close range. Dynamo goalkeeper Marko Marić made a strong save on Sporting’s initial effort from forward Khiry Shelton, quickly getting down to get a foot to Shelton’s shot, but the deflection fell into the path of Hurtado, who tapped it home on the half volley.
Houston leveled the match at a goal apiece just ahead of the hour mark through Elis. The Honduras international, who had entered the match just one minute earlier, slipped into the box and stabbed home a centering pass from midfielder Darwin Cerén. Cerén received a chip from forward Darwin Quintero on the right edge of the six-yard box and pulled the ball back into the middle, finding Elis for a first-time finish.
Manotas completed the comeback when he delivered the late winner with a headed shot into the back of the net in the 85th minute. After coming on as a substitute five minutes earlier, he found a soft spot in Sporting’s defense and leapt to get on the end of an inch-perfect cross from defender Zarek Valentin and snap a header past a diving effort by goalkeeper Tim Melia and into the net.
The goal was Manotas’ 50th in league play for the Dynamo, tying him with Will Bruin for second in club history behind Brian Ching’s record of 56. Elis, meanwhile, has now recorded a goal or an assist in five of his six appearances this year, while Cerén recorded an assist for the third consecutive match.
Prior to kickoff, Houston’s Starting XI paid a special tribute to 11 courageous children and teens battling cancer as they took the field wearing jerseys that had the children’s names on them, rather than their own, as part of Major League Soccer’s Kick Childhood Cancer initiative. All 11 children are patients at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Club’s jersey partner and official cancer research and treatment center.
After playing three games in eight days, things don’t let up for the Dynamo as they head north to take on the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night. That match is scheduled for an 8 p.m. CDT kickoff from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The match will be televised live throughout the Greater Houston area on QuestTEXAS Ch. 55 in English and on TelExitos Ch. 47 in Spanish.
