The Houston Rockets have revealed a redesigned home court for the 2026-27 NBA season. The Houston Rockets new court places the updated Dunkstronaut logo at center stage inside Toyota Center.
The floor is part of a larger visual refresh that includes new uniforms, logos and wordmarks. It also strengthens the franchise’s connection to Houston’s identity as Space City.
Houston Rockets New Court Embraces Space Theme
The new Statement Edition court features a black-and-red Dunkstronaut at center court. A circular background beneath the astronaut creates a moon-like appearance.
Natural hardwood covers most of the playing surface. Black trim surrounds the floor, while bright red fills both painted lanes.
The words “Houston” and “Rockets” appear in red along opposite baselines. The updated lettering uses a new wordmark that combines modern typography with details from earlier Rockets designs.
The organization also prepared a more traditional primary floor. That version features the familiar Rockets “R” at center court while maintaining the refreshed colors and lettering.
Dunkstronaut Takes a Larger Role
The Rockets introduced the Dunkstronaut during the 2023-24 season. The logo shows an astronaut soaring toward the basket with a basketball in one hand.
The original red, white and blue design quickly became popular with supporters. Many fans called for the team to use it beyond limited City Edition games.
Houston has now made the updated Dunkstronaut one of its main secondary logos. That change allows the organization to display it across uniforms, courts, merchandise and digital platforms.
The astronaut also reflects the region’s long connection to NASA and human spaceflight. It gives the franchise a symbol tied directly to the community it represents.
Court Matches New Rockets Uniforms
Houston unveiled its 2026-27 uniform collection in June. The set includes red, white and black combinations with additional yellow accents.
The yellow-and-red design recalls the “ketchup and mustard” colors associated with earlier Rockets teams. Those colors appeared throughout the 1980s and during the franchise’s championship era.
Houston’s black Statement Edition uniform uses the darker Dunkstronaut treatment featured on the alternate court. The astronaut also appears on the waistband of the team’s jerseys.
Other uniform details include space-inspired stripes and an updated Rockets “R.” A “Clutch City Forever” tag honors Houston’s consecutive NBA championships in 1994 and 1995.
Together, the court and uniforms create a consistent identity. The designs combine the team’s championship history with Houston’s space heritage.

Toyota Center Upgrades Continue
The new floor arrives as Toyota Center undergoes wider improvements. More than 17,000 seats in the arena’s main bowl were recently replaced with black sports-weave seating.
Additional renovations will introduce a new atrium, updated suites and expanded retail areas. Plans also include upgraded hospitality spaces and other changes intended to improve the game-day experience.
The larger renovation project is expected to continue through fall 2027. Work will take place in phases to accommodate Rockets games, concerts and other events.
Fans Get a New Game-Day Look
Initial reaction to the redesigned court has been mixed. Some fans prefer the original red, white and blue astronaut, while others support the darker Statement Edition look.
However, the Dunkstronaut’s expanded role answers years of requests from supporters. The logo now has a permanent place within the franchise’s broader identity.
Rockets fans will receive their first full game-night view when the team returns to Toyota Center for the new season. The court will give the City of Houston another visible connection between professional basketball and its Space City legacy.
