Rockstar Games released the GTA 6 extended look on Netflix on Aug. 27. The 27-minute presentation delivered the most detailed official look at Grand Theft Auto VI before its November launch.
The footage was captured entirely from the PlayStation 5 version. It introduced new gameplay systems, activities and details about protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
What the GTA 6 Extended Look Revealed
Jason and Lucia are romantic partners who become caught in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida. Their relationship serves as the emotional center of the story.
The presentation showed both characters working together during robberies and police chases. Players can switch between them during missions, including while one drives and the other fires at pursuing officers.
Jason and Lucia can also explore independently. The system expands on the multiple-protagonist structure introduced in Grand Theft Auto V.
Rockstar described Jason as a former military member and drug runner. Lucia is a skilled fighter who begins the story after leaving prison.
Gameplay Includes Activities and Character Choices
The GTA 6 extended look revealed several activities outside the main storyline. Players can participate in street racing, scuba diving, jet skiing, basketball, dirt biking and weightlifting.
Exercise can change the protagonists’ physical appearance. Food affects their weight, while limited sleep and extended periods of criminal activity can influence their condition.
The presentation also showed expanded clothing options. Players can change accessories, including hats, sunglasses and face coverings, through an on-screen wheel.
Player actions will produce consequences within the game world. Rockstar North development director Rob Nelson said decisions can have deeper effects than systems used in previous Rockstar titles, according to Video Games Chronicle.
One scene showed an icon appearing after Jason interacted with a dog. The moment suggested that Rockstar may use visual feedback to track certain player choices. However, the studio did not fully explain the system.
Vice City and Leonida Take Center Stage
The footage offered a wider look at Vice City, including beaches, neighborhoods, clubs and crowded streets. Other parts of Leonida include wetlands, industrial communities and smaller towns.
Rockstar researched Miami and surrounding areas while developing the setting. The studio consulted law enforcement officers, former criminals, club promoters and other people familiar with the region.
More than 50 street artists created mural designs for the game. Rockstar also worked with race car drivers to improve vehicle handling.
The presentation highlighted a more varied population of non-player characters. It showed residents with different ages, body types, clothing styles, tattoos and cosmetic features.
Netflix Hosted the First Showing
The special premiered globally on Netflix at 2 p.m. Central Time. It includes subtitles in English, Latin American Spanish and several other languages, according to Netflix Tudum.
The Netflix release began a six-hour exclusive window. Rockstar scheduled the presentation to appear later on its official YouTube channel and the GTA 6 website.
The partnership marked an unusual approach to video game marketing. It placed a major game reveal on a subscription streaming service before its wider free release.
GTA 6 Arrives in November
Grand Theft Auto VI will launch Nov. 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preorders are already available.
Rockstar has not announced a PC release date. The company also has not provided complete information about the game’s online component.
The extended presentation gave players a clearer picture of Jason and Lucia’s story, Leonida’s scale and the systems shaping Rockstar’s next open-world game.
