Governor Abbott Meets With JETRO Executives In Tokyo, Japan

4

Governor Greg Abbott today delivered remarks at a luncheon with leaders of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) luncheon in Tokyo, Japan. The Governor praised the dynamic trade partnership between Japan and Texas, and discussed ways to grow both of our economies.

“JETRO continues to play an essential role in developing a strong partnership between Japan and Texas,” said Governor Abbott. “Japan and Texas are half a world apart, but we are working every day to close that gap by facilitating more trade and investment between our two regions. Together, we will create a more robust partnership and a more prosperous economic future.”

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is a government-related organization promoting international trade and investment. They offer foreign investors with abundant information on all aspects of doing business in Japan by providing expert consultation and offering free temporary office space in major business areas across the country. JETRO was established in 1958 and is focused on investment in Japan, supporting the overseas business of Japanese firms, and facilitating economic growth in developing countries through trade promotion. JETRO has one office in Houston, which assists companies in the U.S. South Central Regional in investing in Japan, providing direct access to the Invest in Japan Business Support Centers where American companies can be supplied with market information

Honoring and Remembering Harris County Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal

1

“Fort Bend County mourns with the family and friends of Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal, our neighbors at the Harris County Sheriff’s office, and all those throughout our community that were touched by the kindness of Deputy Dhaliwal over a storied and trailblazing career in law enforcement. He was a groundbreaking officer in our region, state, and country because he worked hard to break barriers and received permission to wear the garb of his Sikh faith on patrol paving the way for so many and inspiring countless in the process. Deputy Dhaliwal was a shining example of the values we hold dear in our diverse region by exuding compassion and understanding in every aspect of his career from connecting with the youth to serving by example during the disaster of Hurricane Harvey. As a mark of solemn respect for the downed law enforcement officer, by the authority vested in me, I hereby order the flags of Fort Bend County be flown at half-staff until sunset on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019.”

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls: “Deputy Dhaliwal led the way for others to serve their community without sacrificing the beliefs of their religion or culture. His death is truly a loss for our community.”

District Attorney Brian Middleton: “Due to Deputy Dhaliwal’s murder being apprehended and charged with capital murder, justice will be swift and proportionate to the crime. Deputy Dhaliwal paid the ultimate sacrifice for his service to the community. I and other law enforcement officials stand with Deputy Dhaliwal’s family and will insure Deputy Dhaliwal’s courage and service will never be forgotten.”

Aston Martin: Rapide AMR

3

A FOUR-DOOR WORTHY OF A RACING TEAM

Rapide AMR represents the ultimate evolution of a spectacular & versatile sports car.

With enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more powerful design language, Aston Martin has taken Rapide to new and exciting extremes.

Drawing inspiration from the concept car unveiled to great acclaim at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Rapide AMR further enhances this charismatic four-door sports car. Incorporating a comprehensive suite of power, chassis and styling upgrades – plus a new interior treatment.

Official government fuel consumption figures in Litres/100 km (mpg): Urban 19.5 (14.5); Extra urban 9.5 (29.7); Combined 13.2 (21.4); CO2 emissions: 305 g/ km

POWERFUL DESIGN LANGUAGE

The design of the new Rapide AMR has changed little from the concept that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017, with a large and aggressive front grille that is reminiscent of the extreme track-only Vantage AMR Pro. Meanwhile the circular daytime running lights recall the recent Zagato models.

STANDARD & SILHOUETTE SCHEMES

Rapide AMR is available in three different design schemes.

The Standard and Silhouette schemes offer four colours – Mariana Blue, Scintilla Silver, Lightning Silver and Onyx Black – with the Standard scheme adding AMR Lime accents to the splitter, sills and rear diffuser. The Silhouette scheme eschews the Lime accents and instead adds a fulllength contrasting stripe in China Grey or Clubsport White.

SIGNATURE SCHEME

The Signature scheme matches Stirling Green paint with Lime accents and a Lime stripe for the definitive AMR look. This draws the closest visual link to the Aston Martin Racing team and the liveries of its race cars.

EVERY INCH A SPORTS CAR

At the heart of the Rapide AMR is a naturally aspirated drivetrain that draws much of its technology and character from the potent Aston Martin Vantage GT12.

Larger inlet manifolds with tuned length dual inlet runners enhance the airflow into the 6.0-litre V12 engine and, combined with new engine and gearbox calibration, this results in an increase in power.

BUILT FOR SPEED

The legendary V12 now puts out 603PS and 630NM of torque, while a new quad exhaust ensures a raucous sound befitting of the AMR badge.

HARNESSING THE POWER

To help launch from 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds), the Rapide AMR has 21-inch wheels – a first for any Aston Martin – paired with ultra-high performance Michelin Super Sport tyres. The large, forged wheels have a multi spoke design that is not only very stiff but also aids brake cooling.

AGILE & DYNAMIC

Rapide AMR’s suspension has also received considerable attention. The new Rapide AMR rides 10mm lower than a Rapide S and although the three stage adaptive dampers remain, they have been thoroughly reengineered to create a car that is more focused, agile and dynamic.

Much of this development work has been completed at the AMR Performance Centre at the Nürburgring.

Que Onda Travels: Santa Barbara, CA

1

You can thank Santa Barbara for your obsession with avocado toast. Avocados were introduced to the U.S. in 1871 when Judge R.B. Ord of Santa Barbara imported the tree from Mexico.

WHEN TO GO

September – November

Santa Barbara is gorgeous no matter what time of year you visit. Peak travel season is summer, and you’ll find the beaches more crowded and the hotels pricier. We recommend traveling in early fall for cool temperatures, lower prices and lower chances of rain.

DISCOVERIES

If Everybody Had an Ocean

Santa Barbara is like most Southern California towns — a hub for fun in the sun. First up, the beaches. Head to Leadbetter Beach for surfing and paddleboarding, or Arroyo Burro Beach if you have a furry friend in tow.

When the sun starts to set, Butterfly Beach will provide the perfect viewpoint for an orange and purple sky. Take a stroll along Stearns Wharf, the oldest pier in California, or hop on a bike and explore the boardwalk, riding through golden rays filtering through tall palm trees. If you’re here in the early spring when the weather is chilly, bundle up and go whale watching or just sail around the harbor in style.

Look Deep Into Nature

Santa Barbara is pressed in on all sides by incredible natural splendor. To the east, the Santa Ynez mountains stretch into Santa Barbara’s backyard.

Take to Los Padres National Forest, a sprawling 1.75 million-acre preserve with over 300 miles of hiking trails and coastal treks. To the west, scattered in the ocean, is Channel Islands National Park, an archipelago of five islands packed full of adventures like snorkeling, sea cave exploring and hiking. If you want something close and easy, drive up to Knapp’s Castle, where a short hike will drop you at a set of ruins with stunning views.

Follow the Chardonnay

Once you leave the mountains, follow a different kind of trail straight to Santa Barbara’s wineries. Nearby Santa Ynez is one of California’s hidden wine gems, and there are dozens of vineyards scattered through the region just a short drive from the city. If you prefer staying downtown, however, the wine trail extends into Santa Barbara’s tasting rooms. Head to the Funk Zone, a vibrant area with tasting rooms, breweries and restaurants. Taste pinot noir in the city’s oldest winery, Santa Barbara Winery, or enjoy merlot with a view of the ocean at Deep Sea Wines.

City Life

The first thing you’ll notice about the city is the stunning red-roofed buildings and Spanish-influenced architecture. Art and history line the streets and there are a few must-see spots. Start at the old Courthouse whose tower offers a 360-view of the stunning buildings. Then hop over to Santa Barbara Mission before embarking on a walking tour of downtown to experience all the old buildings, stopping into boutique stores and restaurants along the way. When you need to get indoors, try Santa Barbara Sea Center for a fascinating look at ocean life, and MOXI, an engaging new museum devoted to technology and science.

WHAT TO EAT

Mexicali, Anyone?

Santa Barbara is an old haunt of Julia Child — so you know the food is going to be good. Mexican food especially dominates the culinary scene, with delicious spots like Mony’s and Corazon Cocina serving up mouth-watering options. For fresh seafood, Bluewater Grill is a classic housed in a lighthouse near the waterfront. Find a spot near a fire pit at the Sandbar for a cozy vibe, before slipping over to Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. for drinks.

STAY HERE

Sleepy Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is, of course, home to some supremely luxurious hotels. The Hotel Californian and Hotel Santa Barbara are two classics that offer great experiences. If you want something a little better priced, head to West Beach. Try the Sandpiper Lodge, a motel that’s decently priced and in a great location. Finally, if you really want to rough it, Santa Barbara is home to some of the best beach campsites in California, like Refugio State Beach.

Lobster Tails with Street Corn Purée

Recipe Courtesy of CleanEatingMag.com

Piquant Pepper

Red when ripe, chiles de arbol are small, slim and sold dried as well as fresh. These peppers have a bright, acidic heat similar to that of a Thai bird’s eye chile (making them a good substitute). Eating these may boost your metabolism, as capsaicin, the chemical in chile peppers that produces the heat, encourages the body to enter thermogenesis, burning more calories over a 24-hour period.

Ingredients

  • 2 large ears corn, husked
  • ½ tsp grape seed oil
  • ⅛ tsp sea salt
  • 1–2 fresh arbol chiles, seeded
  • 1 lime zested and juiced
  • 2 oz queso fresco, grated + additional for garnish (optional)
  • 2 tbsp organic unsalted butter, melted, divided
  • 4 lobster tails (4 oz each), in shell and split lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives

Preparation

1. Grill vegetables: Preheat grill to medium. Brush corn with oil and sprinkle with salt. Place on grill and cook uncovered, turning occasionally, until charred in spots and kernels are softened, 12 to 15 minutes. Place chile on grill in final minute. On a cutting board, remove kernels from cobs with a sharp knife. In a small bowl, reserve ½ cup kernels. To a blender, add remaining kernels, chile, lime zest and juice, queso fresco and 1 tbsp butter. Purée until smooth.

2. Grill lobster: Increase heat on grill to medium-high. Brush cut sides of lobster tails with remaining 1 tbsp butter. Grill flesh side down, covered, for 2 minutes, or until flesh is opaque. Set aside to cool. Remove lobster tails from shells by pulling meat away with a fork.

3. Divide corn purée among 4 plates. Arrange 2 lobster tail halves onto each plate. Divide reserved corn kernels, chives and additional queso (if using) among plates.

¡Pide Más, Espera Más Y Obtendrás Más!

4

Trump Terminará Política “capturar Y Liberar” Y Podrá Deportar a Inmigrantes Con Rapidez

4
