State Sen. John Whitmire says he will run for Mayor of Houston in 2023
“I told supporters my plans. But currently I am focusing on the senate race,” Whitmire confirmed to KPRC 2′s Investigative team. “We have unfinished business in legislature. Bail bond reform etc. but yes I am running in 2023. There will be an official announcement in the future.”
Whitmire is the first prospective mayoral candidate to announce his intention to run for Houston mayor.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s final term ends in 2023. Turner was elected to the position in December 2015 and again in 2019.
No one has officially filed to run for Houston Mayor, The City of Houston Secretary’s Office told KPRC 2. The filing deadline is in 2022.
Whitmire currently represents the state’s 15th Senatorial District, which comprises of north Houston and portions of Harris County.
Whitmire has over 38 years of service in the Texas Senate. He was first elected to the Texas Senate in 1982. Previously, he served 10 years in the Texas House of Representatives.
Born in Hillsboro, Texas, Whitmire moved to Houston where he graduated from Waltrip High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Houston, and later attended the Bates College of Law.

$2 billion lawsuit filed against Travis Scott, Drake, Live Nation and Apple Music following Astroworld Festival tragedy
Travis Scott’s attorney says ‘finger-pointing needs to stop’A Texas-based attorney filed a $2 billion lawsuit against Travis Scott and others following the tragedy at the Astroworld Festival that left 10 people dead and hundreds more injured.
The lawsuit, which was filed by Texas trial attorney Thomas J. Henry, includes a long list of defendants such as Apple Music, Travis Scott, Aubrey Drake Graham, Live Nation, and NRG Stadium.
According to the news release from Henry, the lawsuit was filed on behalf of 282 victims who have hired an attorney to represent them following the festival.
“The defendants stood to make an exorbitant amount of money off of this event, and they still chose to cut corners, cut costs, and put attendees at risk,” Henry said. “My clients want to ensure the defendants are held responsible for their actions, and they want to send the message to all performers, event organizers, and promoters that what happened at Astroworld cannot happen again.”
Henry’s lawsuit is one of several lawsuits filed against Travis Scott and others.
On Tuesday, Houston attorney Tony Buzbee also filed a lawsuit on behalf of more than 120 clients, including Axel Acosta, who died at the festival.
The suit filed by Buzbee also names several organizations, including Apple Music and Epic Music, claiming they stood to profit from the event. The suit is seeking $750 million.

Governor Abbott Approves Funding To Launch Election Audit Division Within Texas Secretary Of State’s Office
The Governor requested these funds on Thursday. The Lt. Governor and Speaker issued a proposal for the transfer this morning and the Governor approved it.
“Ensuring the integrity of our elections is critical to our democracy, and the Texas Secretary of State’s office deserves the resources and support needed to thoroughly complete this ongoing task,” said Governor Abbott. “The people of Texas must have trust and confidence in the election process, as well as the outcomes of our elections, which is why the state of Texas will transfer funding needed so that the Texas Secretary of State can create a division dedicated entirely to this important issue.”

La HHSC lanza chatbot en español para los beneficiarios de WIC
La Comisión de Salud y Servicios Humanos (HHSC) de Texas se está conectando con los texanos que hablan español a través de Maya, un chatbot que proporciona información en español sobre los servicios disponibles de WIC a las nuevas mamás y familias con niños pequeños. Coldplay y BTS presentarán ‘My Universe’ en los AMAs 2021
El éxito apabullante de ‘My Universe’ rompió internet y superó las expectativas de los fans. Sin embargo, el performance en vivo de la canción interpretado por Coldplay y BTS estaba pendiente, ya que cada agrupación había presentado el tema en sus shows de forma independiente.
Ninguno de los dos grupos había dado indicios de posibles presentaciones juntos hasta hace unas horas que se confirmó su asistencia a los American Music Awards (AMAS).
El próximo 21 de noviembre se llevará a cabo la entrega de los AMAS, cuyo objetivo es reconocer a los artistas, agrupaciones, singles y álbumes más exitosos de 2021.
Hay varias sorpresas para la edición 49 de este evento que se celebrará en el Microsoft Theatre de Los Ángeles, entre ellas, la conducción estelar que realizará la rapera Cardi B como anfitriona de los AMAS.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stephanie Beatriz and John Leguizamo revealed today in a new featurette that Disney is supporting the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation’s Scholarship Fund to help develop future Latin music creators globally, as well as supporting additional organizations to expand music education across Colombia. The effort is part of Disney’s commitment to empower the next generation of storytellers and innovators. Miranda, the creator and original star of Broadway’s “Hamilton,” wrote eight original songs for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 60th feature film, “Encanto,” which features the voices of Beatriz and Leguizamo. “Music is universal,” said Miranda in the featurette. “Music education helps students to connect to other cultures, and understand the world around them to become true global citizens.”

DART Announces Thanksgiving Holiday 2021 Service Schedule
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses, light rail trains and Dallas streetcar services will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thursday, Nov. 25, and a Saturday schedule on Friday, Nov. 26 for North Texas riders.
The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) will not operate Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25 and will provide Saturday service on Friday, Nov. 26.
DART and TRE holiday changes will continue until regular scheduled transit service resumes Saturday, Nov. 27.
DART Mobility Management’s Paratransit Call Center will be closed Thursday through Sunday. Customers wishing to schedule trips by phone for any of the four days will need to do so by Wednesday, Nov. 24. Customers can also schedule, view and cancel trips 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at www.DART.org/paratransit.
On Thursday, Nov. 25 and on Friday, Nov. 26 the Inland Port GoLink Zone will operate on a Sunday schedule (5:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). There is no service in any of the other GoLink zones.
DART’s Customer Information Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day and open Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The administrative offices, Customer Care Center, and Lost and Found will be closed both Thanksgiving Day and Friday.

2021 Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot
Buses in Downtown Dallas, Deep Ellum and North Oak Cliff could see delays on Thanksgiving morning and be affected by detours or reroutes, especially those running near the 2021 Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot, one of the largest multi-event races in the country.
DART Rail will operate three additional Red Line trains and one additional Blue Line train on Thursday morning due to the Turkey Trot.
Additional Red Line trains from Parker Road Station depart at 7:13 a.m., 7:43 a.m. and 8:13 a.m. and arrive at Convention Center Station at 8:00 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. These trains operate to all stations between Parker Road and Cedars stations.
An additional Blue Line train from Downtown Rowlett Station departs at 7:22 a.m. and arrives at Convention Center Station at 8:05 a.m. This train operates to all stations between Downtown Rowlett and Cedars stations.
The race will impact bus service and place several routes on detour Thanksgiving morning beginning at 7 a.m. Routes affected include: 2, 11, 12, 19, 21, 26, 29, 35, 52, 59, 60, 76, 81/82, 110, 111, 161, 164 and 749. Click here to view bus detour information.
