La HHSC lanza chatbot en español para los beneficiarios de WIC

La Comisión de Salud y Servicios Humanos (HHSC) de Texas se está conectando con los texanos que hablan español a través de Maya, un chatbot que proporciona información en español sobre los servicios disponibles de WIC a las nuevas mamás y familias con niños pequeños. El español es el idioma principal en más del 35 por ciento de los hogares de Texas que reciben servicios de WIC.

Las familias pueden encontrar a Maya en el sitio web de WIC de Texas en español(link is external). El chatbot es una herramienta de comunicación automatizada en línea y fácil de usar que responde a preguntas comunes adaptadas a las necesidades de un usuario.

“Estamos muy contentos de lanzar esta herramienta para las personas con preguntas sobre nutrición, lactancia materna y sobre cómo tener acceso a apoyos para sus familias”, dijo Edgar Curtis, director de WIC de Texas. “Podemos llegar a muchos más clientes de WIC que hablan español cuando sea más conveniente para ellos. Nos enorgullece ofrecer recursos excelentes a nuestros clientes, familias y comunidades”.

Para desarrollar el chatbot, WIC de Texas utilizó una subvención del Departamento de Agricultura de EE.UU. para proyectos especiales. Antes de la implementación de Maya, el personal del programa trabajó con investigadores de la Universidad Texas State para evaluar el asistente virtual y asegurar la utilidad y la operatividad de sus funciones. La institución también colaboró con la implementación de la versión en inglés del chatbot el año pasado. Los investigadores continuarán monitoreando el chatbot para identificar aspectos a mejorar.

Crime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department’s Special Victims Division need the public’s assistance locating fugitive Michael Hayes, who is wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2021, fugitive Michael Hayes performed inappropriate acts with the child victim in the 5800 block of N. Houston Rosslyn Rd. in Houston, Texas. During the investigation, the victim made an outcry of abuse and detectives learned that the fugitive sexually assaulted them.

Fugitive Michael Hayes is a black male, 42 years old, approximately 5’10″, 145 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair.

Coldplay y BTS presentarán ‘My Universe’ en los AMAs 2021

El éxito apabullante de ‘My Universe’ rompió internet y superó las expectativas de los fans. Sin embargo, el performance en vivo de la canción interpretado por Coldplay y BTS estaba pendiente, ya que cada agrupación había presentado el tema en sus shows de forma independiente.

Ninguno de los dos grupos había dado indicios de posibles presentaciones juntos hasta hace unas horas que se confirmó su asistencia a los American Music Awards (AMAS).

El próximo 21 de noviembre se llevará a cabo la entrega de los AMAS, cuyo objetivo es reconocer a los artistas, agrupaciones, singles y álbumes más exitosos de 2021.

Hay varias sorpresas para la edición 49 de este evento que se celebrará en el Microsoft Theatre de Los Ángeles, entre ellas, la conducción estelar que realizará la rapera Cardi B como anfitriona de los AMAS.

Por otro lado, la confirmación de que la agrupación británica Coldplay y la popular band boy BTS actuarán juntos, por primera vez en un escenario en vivo, enloqueció a los fans.

Coldplay recientemente estrenó su álbum Music of the Spheres en el que el tema ‘My Universe’ fue la antesala de otros éxitos y duetos con artistas como Selena Gómez.

Pero ‘My Universe’ no llegó solo a las plataformas de música, lo secundaron varias versiones más: una en acústico, el video oficial de la canción y un mini documental llamado Inside ‘My Universe’, que ya suma más de 14 millones de views.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stephanie Beatriz and John Leguizamo revealed today in a new featurette that Disney is supporting the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation’s Scholarship Fund to help develop future Latin music creators globally, as well as supporting additional organizations to expand music education across Colombia. The effort is part of Disney’s commitment to empower the next generation of storytellers and innovators. Miranda, the creator and original star of Broadway’s “Hamilton,” wrote eight original songs for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 60th feature film, “Encanto,” which features the voices of Beatriz and Leguizamo. “Music is universal,” said Miranda in the featurette. “Music education helps students to connect to other cultures, and understand the world around them to become true global citizens.”

In addition, The Walt Disney Company Latin America will be donating funds to Colombian organizations that promote youth and community development through access to education. The grants will support a project that will expand access to music education across the country, including communities in the Bolivar, Quindio and Boyaca regions, which served as inspiration for the movie.

DART Announces Thanksgiving Holiday 2021 Service Schedule

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses, light rail trains and Dallas streetcar services will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thursday, Nov. 25, and a Saturday schedule on Friday, Nov. 26 for North Texas riders.

The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) will not operate Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25 and will provide Saturday service on Friday, Nov. 26.

DART and TRE holiday changes will continue until regular scheduled transit service resumes Saturday, Nov. 27.

DART Mobility Management’s Paratransit Call Center will be closed Thursday through Sunday. Customers wishing to schedule trips by phone for any of the four days will need to do so by Wednesday, Nov. 24. Customers can also schedule, view and cancel trips 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at www.DART.org/paratransit.

On Thursday, Nov. 25 and on Friday, Nov. 26 the Inland Port GoLink Zone will operate on a Sunday schedule (5:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). There is no service in any of the other GoLink zones.

DART’s Customer Information Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day and open Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The administrative offices, Customer Care Center, and Lost and Found will be closed both Thanksgiving Day and Friday.

2021 Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot
Buses in Downtown Dallas, Deep Ellum and North Oak Cliff could see delays on Thanksgiving morning and be affected by detours or reroutes, especially those running near the 2021 Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot, one of the largest multi-event races in the country.

DART Rail will operate three additional Red Line trains and one additional Blue Line train on Thursday morning due to the Turkey Trot.

Additional Red Line trains from Parker Road Station depart at 7:13 a.m., 7:43 a.m. and 8:13 a.m. and arrive at Convention Center Station at 8:00 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. These trains operate to all stations between Parker Road and Cedars stations.

An additional Blue Line train from Downtown Rowlett Station departs at 7:22 a.m. and arrives at Convention Center Station at 8:05 a.m. This train operates to all stations between Downtown Rowlett and Cedars stations.

The race will impact bus service and place several routes on detour Thanksgiving morning beginning at 7 a.m. Routes affected include: 2, 11, 12, 19, 21, 26, 29, 35, 52, 59, 60, 76, 81/82, 110, 111, 161, 164 and 749. Click here to view bus detour information.

Governor Greg Abbott today announced that Texas Instruments (TI) has selected Sherman as the location for their next 300-mm fabs, with potential of up to four fabs on the site to meet demand over time. TI is a Dallas-based, publicly-traded semiconductor company that manufactures processing chips. The new fabrication facilities will manufacture 300-mm semiconductor wafers with construction of the first and second fabs set to begin in 2022. Plans for production from the first facility should begin as early as 2025. With the option to include up to four fabs, the company could employ up to 3,000 people in Sherman and invest nearly $30 billion over the coming decades.

“For more than 90 years, TI has been a member of the powerful ‘Made in Texas’ brand and we are proud that the company has chosen to continue its legacy of innovation in the Lone Star State,” said Governor Abbott. “In addition to bringing billions of dollars in capital investment and thousands of new jobs to North Texas, this historic investment will keep Texas a national leader in semiconductor manufacturing while also strengthening the domestic semiconductor supply chain. I thank TI for choosing Sherman as the site for up to four new semiconductor manufacturing facilities as we work together to keep Texas a global hub for innovation in advanced technology and manufacturing.”

Governor Greg Abbott today sent a letter urging President Joe Biden to begin an aggressive dialogue during his upcoming meeting with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador regarding border security and recent operational threats against American energy companies by the Mexican government. President Biden and President López Obrador are set to meet at the White House on Thursday, November 18.

“As a result of the inaction by your administration and the Mexican government, I launched Operation Lone Star in early March to help secure the border and combat the smuggling of people and drugs in Texas,” reads the letter. “I urge you to engage the Mexican government about ways to prevent the smuggling of individuals, drugs, and the continued flow of illegal immigrants into Texas. Additionally, I urge you to take action to protect American assets from seizure by the Mexican government, potentially in violation of international trade laws. Accordingly, I ask that your administration immediately engage in a dialogue with Mexican officials to discuss the immediate withdrawal of the Mexican military from U.S. owned business interests and convey that no further actions to undermine energy development, production or transmission activities will continue.”

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the Mexican National Guard was deployed to shut down fuel storage assets owned by Texas-based Monterra Energy. Other American companies face similar operational threats, remain closed, and are under the supervision of the militarized police force despite their continued efforts to work with Mexican regulators.

Governor Greg Abbott today announced that CBRE, Inc., the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, will, over the next 13 years, create 460 new jobs and more than $29 million in capital investment at its Dallas headquarters, and 550 new jobs and more than $13 million in capital investment at a new operations center in Richardson. Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grants of $3,450,000 and $3,300,000 have been extended to CBRE, Inc.

“Exceptional companies like CBRE are attracted to Texas because of our dynamic workforce and unrivaled business climate,” said Governor Abbott. “CBRE’s expansion in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex will bring over one thousand high-paying jobs and greater opportunities for the hardworking people of North Texas, and I look forward to a strong relationship with the company as we work together to keep Texas the national model for economic prosperity.”
