Discovery Green, the 12-acre park in the heart of downtown Houston, continues its Spring 2019 Season with its inaugural Cinco de Mayo celebration on Sunday, May 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. A collaboration between Discovery Green and Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA), the event celebrates Mexican culture and heritage with a lineup of live music and traditional dance.
Bombón’s La Comadre (Mel Gomez) and DJ Gracie Chavez will emcee the afternoon of performances: a Selena tribute by Amanda Solis, dancing by J-Dance Company and Ballet Folklorico Herencia Mexicana de Houston, singing by Kirsten G, a play by Nueva Luna Ballet Folklorico and a headlining performance by Kinder HSPVA Mariachis.
Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome; food, beer and wine are available for purchase on site from The Grove and Lake House Cafe. No glass containers or outside alcoholic beverages allowed. The event is free to attend. Please visit www.discoverygreen.com for additional information.
