Disney presented a wide range of movie, television and gaming announcements Friday, Aug. 14, in Anaheim, California. The major D23 2026 reveals included new sequels, release dates, trailers and casting updates.
The Disney Entertainment Showcase took place before approximately 12,000 fans at the Honda Center. Projects from Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios and Disney+ filled the presentation.
‘Frozen 3’ footage reveals a wedding and new threat
Disney shared the first footage from Frozen 3, scheduled for Nov. 24, 2027. The preview featured Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, with Olaf catching the bride’s bouquet.
The story takes a mysterious turn when Elsa discovers a frozen amulet. The object summons the northern lights and appears to guide the sisters toward a new enemy.
Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad appeared during the presentation. Bell and Menzel performed a new song, while Gad introduced another musical number featuring Olaf.
Disney Animation also confirmed Zootopia 3. Director Jared Bush announced the sequel, although Disney did not reveal its story or release date.
New animated movies expand Disney’s lineup
Disney presented new details about Hexed, an original animated film centered on a teenager named Billie. Hailee Steinfeld will voice the character, who discovers that she possesses hidden magical powers.
Walton Goggins will voice Beef Roger Crummchuk, a green, three-eyed cat who protects Billie. Jodie Foster has joined the cast as a witch pursuing the teenager.
Disney also announced Clay, scheduled for November 2028. Kieran Culkin will lead the story about a teacher and an apprentice named Mooshy.
These announcements gave Disney Animation a mix of original projects and established franchises. More information about Zootopia 3 is expected as development continues.
Pixar announces ‘Ghost Market’ and sequel dates
Pixar revealed Ghost Market, its first feature described as a supernatural mystery. The spring 2028 release follows a boy named Kyle who enters a store at night and crosses into another world.
The studio also showed footage from Gatto. Directed by Luca filmmaker Enrico Casarosa, the 2027 movie follows a black cat trying to survive in Venice.
Pixar confirmed that The Incredibles 3 will arrive during summer 2028. The film will introduce a villain who creates and markets a league of supervillains.
Coco 2 will open in November 2029. Directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina will return, along with Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz. The story will follow an older Miguel on another journey through the Land of the Dead.
‘Kingdom Hearts IV’ receives a release window
One of the night’s loudest audience reactions followed the appearance of Kingdom Hearts IV. The long-awaited game will arrive in fall 2027.
New footage showed Sora entering the world of Coco. The character must confront dark creatures while exploring the colorful Land of the Dead.
Disney also announced a Kingdom Hearts television series. Franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura will participate in its development. The project does not have an official title or release date.
Marvel previews ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘VisionQuest’
Marvel Studios showed a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which opens Dec. 18, 2026. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell appeared onstage during the presentation.
The footage included Downey as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards. It also showed Ian McKellen returning as Magneto.
Hugh Jackman appeared through a recorded message and expressed interest in joining the movie as Wolverine. However, Marvel did not definitively confirm his appearance.
Marvel also presented a trailer and poster for VisionQuest. Paul Bettany returns as Vision, while James Spader reprises his role as Ultron. The Disney+ series premieres Oct. 14, 2026.
A new Marvel Wolverine video game will arrive Sept. 15. The presentation followed Marvel’s separate announcement of the cast and May 2028 release date for its new X-Men movie.
‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ introduces Ryan Gosling’s character
Lucasfilm presented the first trailer for Star Wars: Starfighter. The film stars Ryan Gosling as Kade Auberon, a pilot from what Gosling described as the wrong side of the galaxy.
Amy Adams, Mia Goth and Matt Smith have also joined the cast. Shawn Levy directs the movie, which opens May 28, 2027. The release will mark the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars.
Lucasfilm also showed a trailer for the second season of Ahsoka. Rosario Dawson appeared with Hayden Christensen and Eman Esfandi. Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker in a Force ghost form.
Disney plans to return the original 1977 Star Wars movie to theaters during the franchise’s anniversary year.
‘Tangled,’ Oswald and other Disney projects receive updates
Disney showed a behind-the-scenes look at its live-action Tangled. Teagan Croft stars as Rapunzel, while Kathryn Hahn plays Mother Gothel.
Production is taking place in Spain, including locations around Girona and the Mediterranean coast. The film opens March 31, 2028.
Director Jon Favreau announced a three-part Disney+ miniseries about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The February 2027 project will combine hand-drawn animation with real locations connected to Walt Disney.
Favreau also presented Lion, a four-part nature documentary following a lion cub named Kio. Hans Zimmer composed the project’s music.
Anne Hathaway appeared to promote The Princess Diaries 3. Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino also confirmed that Romy and Michele will return for another movie.
More D23 2026 reveals span movies, television and theater
Disney showed unfinished footage from the next Simpsons movie, scheduled for Sept. 3, 2027. The preview featured Homer chasing a baseball from a stadium to the Duff brewery.
Queen Latifah and Denis Leary introduced Ice Age: Boiling Point. The sixth film in the animated franchise will open in February 2027.
The Bluey Movie received an August 2027 release window. Disney also announced that the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere Nov. 20, 2026.
The Jonas Brothers introduced a new generation of performers from Camp Rock 3. Meanwhile, Disney confirmed that The Greatest Showman stage musical will open at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane in spring 2027.
Together, the Friday announcements outlined Disney’s entertainment schedule through 2029. Fans can expect additional details as the projects enter production and approach their release dates.
