Apple CEO Tim Cook formally showcased the company’s 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Houston on Thursday. The Apple Houston factory produces advanced servers that support Apple Intelligence and the company’s cloud-based artificial intelligence services.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick joined Cook for the Houston event. The visit highlighted Apple’s growing manufacturing presence in Texas and its broader investment in domestic production.
Apple Houston Factory Produces AI Servers
Workers at the facility assemble advanced servers, including logic boards produced on-site. Apple installs the equipment at data centers across the United States.
The servers support Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute. Apple developed Private Cloud Compute to process complex AI requests while protecting personal information.
Previously, Apple manufactured these servers outside the United States. The Houston operation brings part of that production closer to the company’s domestic data centers.
Apple initially planned to begin mass production at the factory in 2026. However, the company started shipping servers from Houston ahead of schedule in 2025.
Houston Operations Continue to Expand
The server factory represents one part of Apple’s expanding Houston campus. The company also plans to manufacture Mac mini computers at a new facility on the site.
Mac mini production is scheduled to begin later in 2026. It will mark the first time Apple has manufactured the compact desktop computer in the United States.
The additional factory will double Apple’s manufacturing footprint at the Houston site. Apple said its combined Houston operations will create thousands of jobs. However, the company has not released a detailed breakdown of positions or hiring dates.
Apple is also opening a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston. The training facility will serve students, supplier employees and businesses of different sizes.
Apple specialists will provide instruction in modern manufacturing methods. Training will cover processes similar to those used across Apple’s supply chain.
Part of Apple’s $600 Billion U.S. Commitment
The Houston investment falls under Apple’s plan to spend $600 billion in the United States over four years. The company announced the expanded commitment and its American Manufacturing Program in 2025.
Apple said the program encourages suppliers to produce more components in the United States. The company works with thousands of suppliers across all 50 states.
Apple also plans to directly hire 20,000 U.S. workers during the investment period. Many of those jobs will involve research, software, silicon engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Texas already plays a major role in Apple’s domestic operations. The company reported having more than 13,000 employees across the state in 2025. Apple also operates a large corporate campus in Austin and works with Texas-based manufacturing suppliers.
A New Technology Manufacturing Hub for Houston
The Apple Houston factory strengthens the region’s position beyond its established energy, medical and aerospace industries. It adds advanced electronics and AI infrastructure to Houston’s growing technology sector.
