Woman, 7-year-old child fatally shot in double-murder suicide in W. Harris County, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A woman and her 7-year-old were found shot to death in west Harris County in what officials have confirmed to be a double-murder suicide on Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on social media that deputies responded to the 20000 block of Park Row Drive, describing the situation as “awful.”

Deputies arrived at the apartment complex just before 10 a.m. and discovered the 43-year-old woman dead from a gunshot wound, and the child was found in his bedroom, also shot, HCSO said.

Officials also confirm the couple’s teenage daughter and her boyfriend were at the home at the time of the shooting.

A man, who police confirmed was the woman’s husband, was also injured. He was taken to the hospital by a medical helicopter but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Gonzalez said preliminary info points to the husband being the shooter after a pistol was recovered at the scene.

Rain chances increasing next week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Hot weather continues this weekend before rain chances increase next week.

After another humid start to Sunday, it’s going to get quite hot pretty quickly with plenty of sunshine in place. High temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and possibly hit 100 degrees in Houston. This would be the first 100 degree day of the year for Houston if so.

Now that we’re in the summer months, how soon could it hit 100 degrees in Houston?

It could happen as early as this Sunday. We currently have a high of 100 predicted for the day, which would break the record of 99 from 1980. Houston normally doesn’t register the first high of 100 until the second half of July. The earliest 100 degree day on record was set on June 2nd in 2011.

How long will that near-triple-digit heat last?

It looks short-lived at this time with the steamy weather lasting through Monday. We are expecting a major pattern change next week that will bring back a chance for daily downpours. With widespread rain clouds, high temperatures will likely peak in the 80s on those days when the rain starts early in the day.

What’s the outlook for the rain this week?

By Monday a cold front will begin to move into the northern part of the state and will eventually continue to slide closer to us in Southeast Texas. This front will stall midweek, allowing for showers and storms to develop. Because of this, we have a daily rain chance in the forecast beginning Tuesday through Friday of next week. Right now the best chance for rain and potentially heavy thunderstorms will be on Wednesday and Thursday. Area flooding could be a possibility as the week goes on depending on where the heavy rain falls and how much.

What’s happening in the tropics?

At this time the Atlantic basin is filled with a Saharan dust cloud, limiting tropical development. There are signs that something may try to spin up over the Gulf late next week, but it’s too far out to get more specific than that. Disneyland reveals much-anticipated details about new Avatar destination and Coco ride

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disneyland Resort answered many questions about future expansion plans on Thursday night — including details on new rides and a new parking structure.

New renderings show where the much-anticipated new Avatar destination and Coco-themed ride will be built.

The Avatar destination will transform part of the Hollywood Backlot area in Disney California Adventure. In order to make room, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close in early 2026.

The new Coco ride will be built near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier in areas that are currently predominantly backstage. Construction is set to begin this fall.

Disneyland also announced a brand new parking structure planned for the east side of the resort. The new area will hold about 6,000 parking spaces as well as shuttle and rideshare areas. The parking structure will also feature a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard.

HOUSTON — As the Houston Texans continue their preparations for the 2025 NFL season, the team is navigating a wave of roster changes, developmental progress, and swirling trade speculation.

Ronald Darby Announces Retirement

In a surprise move, veteran cornerback Ronald Darby has announced his retirement from professional football. The 30-year-old defensive back, who signed with Houston earlier this year after spending the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, informed the Texans of his decision after participating in offseason workouts. The team officially placed him on the reserve/retired list on Monday.

Darby’s retirement opens the door for younger players in the Texans’ secondary, including third-round draft pick Jaylin Smith, to step up during upcoming training camp sessions.

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros demonstrated resilience and strong play as May drew to a close, posting a commendable 7–4 record in their final eleven games. This surge propelled them to second place in the fiercely competitive American League West with an overall mark of 32–27. Their recent success places them a mere half-game behind the division-leading Seattle Mariners, setting the stage for an intriguing battle atop the AL West standings as the season progresses.

The team faced a setback on May 21 with a decisive 8–4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. However, demonstrating their ability to rebound, the Astros responded emphatically. They secured crucial series victories against the division-rival Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics. Their strong finish to the month culminated in a tight 1–0 victory against those same Tampa Bay Rays on June 1, underscoring their improved form and ability to win close contests.

A standout performance in the June 1 victory came from right-handed pitcher Hunter Brown. He delivered a dominant outing, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing just a single hit. Brown has been a model of consistency for the Astros this season, boasting an impressive 1.83 ERA. Russian attacks overnight left at least seven people dead and 41 injured in Ukraine, authorities reported early Saturday.

The strikes targeted homes, civilian facilities, and energy infrastructure.

Kharkiv Endures Heavy Attacks

The northeastern city of Kharkiv suffered the most devastating attacks, with three people killed and 21 injured, including an infant and a 14-year-old girl, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov. Kharkiv Oblast Gov. Oleh Syniehubov reported that Russia hit the city with 48 drones, five guided aerial bombs, four multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS), and three missiles.

More Civilian Deaths in Kherson

In southern Ukraine, Russian strikes killed a married couple, aged 56 and 54, in the port city of Kherson. Ten others were injured in the surrounding region, said Kherson Oblast Gov. Olexandr Prokudin.

Deaths in Donetsk and Injuries in Sumy

Donetsk Oblast Gov. Vadym Filashkin confirmed that two people died and eight others were hurt in strikes there. In Sumy Oblast, one person was injured.

Ukrainian Response

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 215 projectiles overnight, including 206 drones, two ballistic missiles, six guided aircraft missiles, and one cruise missile. Of those, 174 were neutralized.

“Russia continues its terror against civilians,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.

“More pressure on Moscow is required to stop the destruction.”

President Donald Trump dismissed Elon Musk as “a man who has lost his mind” during a Friday morning phone interview with ABC News, downplaying their spat that erupted over Musk’s criticism of Trump’s signature tax and immigration bill.

Trump said he’s “not particularly” interested in talking to Musk right now, despite reports of a scheduled call. Instead, he pivoted to discuss topics like inflation and his upcoming trip to China.

Advisers Say Trump Was Sad, Not Angry

Those close to Trump described him as more “bummed” than outraged over the falling out with Musk. One senior official said Trump is considering giving away or selling the red Tesla he bought to support Musk, which was parked at the White House Thursday.

Musk’s Father Weighs In

Speaking from India, Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, told Al Arabiya English he urged his son to “make sure this fizzles out.” He predicted Trump would win the feud, citing his majority support among voters.

He attributed his son’s behavior to “a great deal of stress.”

Heated Accusations Spark Feud

On Thursday, Musk accused Trump of being linked to the Epstein files, even suggesting the documents haven’t been released to protect him. Musk also threatened to pull support from NASA’s Dragon spacecraft, but later reversed course after a random X user suggested he “cool off.”

Trump, in turn, threatened to cut Musk’s government contracts and subsidies, calling him “CRAZY.”

Vance and White House React

Vice President JD Vance offered tepid support for Trump, praising his leadership but not directly addressing Musk’s attacks. Vance later slammed the media for portraying Trump as impulsive.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the feud “an unfortunate episode from Elon” and reaffirmed Trump’s focus on passing the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Musk Starts to Soften Tone

Late Thursday, Musk responded to an X user’s call for peace by reversing his threat to shut down Dragon spacecraft.

“Good advice,” Musk replied. “Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”

Jennifer Lopez Stars in First ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ Musical Trailer

Jennifer Lopez showcases her vocals in the first trailer for “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” where she stars as Aurora. Released Thursday, the trailer teases a dance-filled spectacle set to premiere on October 10, co-starring Diego Luna and Tonatiuh.

A Glamorous Aurora and a Captive Dreamer

The trailer opens with Lopez’s character, Aurora, living in luxury — taking a bath, modeling elegant dresses, and dancing onstage — as her voice plays in the background.

The scene then cuts to a jail cell where Luna and Tonatiuh’s characters, Valentin Arregui and Luis Molina, appear.

“What’s your favorite movie? I couldn’t live without movies… One I’ll never forget,” Molina tells Arregui, before pointing to a poster of “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and imagining himself with Aurora.

Lopez’s Vocals and Dance Dazzle

Lopez then sings “Where You Are” while dancing alongside Tonatiuh’s character beyond the prison walls.

“But you’re caught in the web of the Spider Woman / In her velvet cape,” she sings, her voice swelling. The trailer ends with Lopez belting, “You can run/You can scream/You can hide/But you cannot escape.”

A New Adaptation with Broadway Roots

Directed by Bill Condon of Dreamgirls and Chicago fame, this is the second film adaptation of the Broadway musical originally starring Chita Rivera. It arrives 40 years after the 1985 film that earned William Hurt an Oscar for Best Actor.

Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where it received standing ovations.
