Shell signs agreement to sell retail and lubricants businesses in Russia

The deal includes 411 retail stations, mainly located in the Central and Northwestern regions of Russia, and the Torzhok lubricants blending plant, around 200 kilometers northwest of Moscow.

“Our priority is the well-being of our employees,” said Huibert Vigeveno, Shell’s Downstream Director. “Under this deal, more than 350 people currently employed by Shell Neft will transfer to the new owner of this business.”

“The acquisition of Shell’s high-quality businesses in Russia fits well into LUKOIL’s strategy to develop its priority sales channels, including retail, as well as the lubricants business,” said Maxim Donde, LUKOIL’s Vice President for Refined Products Sales.

The agreement with LUKOIL follows Shell’s announcement in early March of its intention to withdraw from all Russian hydrocarbons in a phased manner, and will be carried out in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The sale is expected to be completed later this year, subject to regulatory approval.

Operation Lone Star Transports Over 900 Migrants To Nation’s Capital, Continues Joint Border Security Efforts With Mexican Governors

0

Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas National Guard are continuing to work together to secure the border, stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas, and prevent, detect, and interdict transnational criminal behavior between ports of entry.

Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, multi-agency efforts have led to more than 246,000 migrant apprehensions, along with more than 15,000 criminal arrests — and more than 12,400 felony charges. Over 4,800 weapons and over $38 million in currency have been seized. In the fight against fentanyl, DPS has seized over 344 million lethal doses throughout the state.

As part of the response to President Biden’s reckless decision to end Title 42 expulsions this month, which his own administration has estimated will lead to 18,000 illegal crossings per day, Governor Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses to transport migrants from Texas border communities to Washington, D.C. Since launching this busing operation a month ago, a total of 35 buses have transported 922 migrants.

Operation Lone Star continues to fill the dangerous gaps left by the Biden Administration’s refusal to secure the border. Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President Biden’s open border policies.

VIPER VIOLENT FELONY WARRANT TASK FORCE COMING TO HARRIS CO.

0

TUESDAY, May 10, Harris County Pct. 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia was joined by County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, and Pct. 6 Constable Silvia R. Trevino announced VIPER – a new violent crime warrants task force approved by Commissioners Court. The warrant roundup initiative aims to reduce the number of violent offenders on the loose in Harris County. After being considered by Commissioners Court, VIPER passed unanimously.

Below are selected comments from the event speakers:

“This historic investment in VIPER not only aims to address the warrant backlog of violent cases, for Harris County, it is a first-of-its-kind partnership between all local county law enforcement – the sheriff and constables. Our message to people who are accused of violent crime and have warrants issued for their arrest: you have a pair of handcuffs on, and you don’t even know it because VIPER is upon you.”

-Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia

“The simple truth is that justice delayed is justice denied. Denied for those who need to present themselves to authorities and denied for crime victims awaiting justice. When dangerous criminals aren’t apprehended quickly, it creates a sense that the government does not do its part in addressing serious crimes, making victims feel ignored and perpetrators empowered. That’s why this specific initiative is so important.”

-Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo

“50,000 active warrants in our community – 4,800 of those are for aggravated felonies. Almost 1,000 are for bond revocations. We need to make sure we are working together because every community and every precinct in Harris County has violent offenders that have absconded. We want them to know we are going to be out there looking for them.”

-Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez

“When I read this VIPER Squad Proposal for a Harris County multi-law enforcement agency Task Force coming together, where the Sheriff’s Department and every Constable would be provided a deputy, and they would work TOGETHER as a TEAM, I said ‘I’m all in’. Public Safety is and always will be our number one priority, and this effort is a win-win not only for Precinct 6, but a win-win for all of Harris County.”

-Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Silvia R. Trevino

City of Houston Announces New Art Installation at Central Library’s Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza

HOUSTON – The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) announced today the completion of a new commission of mosaic artworks located in the Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza at the Jesse H. Jones Central Library.
The concept for the artwork was created and developed by native Houstonian Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw, who designed, fabricated, and installed eight mosaic panels bordering the children’s area in the plaza following its debut in September 2021. This welcoming space, designed by Lauren Griffith Associates, extends the Houston Public Library’s (HPL) mission of creating experiences beyond its physical walls and into the outdoors.
“The Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza was redesigned to honor the first lady’s legacy of championing the cause of literacy and her commitment to breaking the intergenerational cycle of low literacy in America,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “It is fitting that we look to art to illuminate Mrs. Bush’s vision for literate youth in America. Ms. Dorsey-Outlaw’s work will do just that by empowering the cause for literacy while welcoming visitors to the Central Library.”The mosaic panel featuring a quote from Barbara Bush rendered in her own handwriting, “I read it from cover to cover.” Photo by Alex Barber. The mosaic installation, the second commission for the City from Dorsey-Outlaw, took inspiration from the imaginative experience of reading. With input from representatives from HPL, the artist incorporated quotes from many recognizable and beloved children’s books, including a quote from Barbara Bush rendered in her handwriting, “I read it from cover to cover.”

“For my family, books have rendered countless moments of liberation through knowledge, the refinement of skill or escaping into the fantastic. Oral traditions bind us through our dreams, humor, and curiosities, thus making up our shared humanity. This project amplifies the imagination ignited by the power of stories.” said Dorsey-Outlaw of her work.

Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw is a mixed media visual artist whose creative practice emphasizes social practice and education. As part of the Texas Commission for the Arts Artist in Education Roster, Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw has enjoyed extended residencies at The Community Artists’ Collective and the Austin Children’s Museum. She was the first artist-in-residence and community liaison in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Education Department. Marsha is also a certified enrichment instructor for many school districts with the Harris County Department of Education and is a member of Young Audiences of Houston. She facilitates school residencies from Harris to Matagorda County.

The mosaic installation is now a permanent artwork in the City of Houston’s Civic Art Collection, whose artworks can be found in over 100 of the City of Houston’s public facilities, airports, and parks and are enjoyed by more than 64 million Houstonians and visitors each year.

The project for the Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza was administered by the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) Civic Art + Design team in partnership with MOCA to enhance Houston’s visual landscape through the City of Houston Civic Art Program.

A selection panel of City department, community, and art world representatives was assembled by Houston Arts Alliance to review recommended concepts for this project. Panelists included Lauren Griffith of Lauren Griffith Associates, mosaic artist Dixie Friend Gay, Algenita Davis, the Government and Community Affairs Officers at the Downtown District, Jaime Herrero, attorney and Executive Director at Urban Partnerships Community Development, and Houston Public Library representative Raiset Ruben Valiente.
