Jay-Z Picks Himself to Headline 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Jay-Z will headline the Jay-Z Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 14, 2027. The performance will take place during Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation confirmed the selection Monday. The announcement immediately drew attention because Jay-Z founded Roc Nation, the company that helps produce the annual show.

Jay-Z Super Bowl Halftime Show Raises Questions

Roc Nation has served as the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist since 2019. The company advises the league and executive produces the halftime show.

That role has given Jay-Z significant influence over one of music’s most visible performances. As a result, several news outlets described the decision as Jay-Z choosing himself.

However, the official announcement presented the booking as a joint decision involving the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also said he had encouraged Jay-Z to perform.

Goodell said he made one request when the NFL began working with Roc Nation. He wanted Jay-Z to take the halftime stage whenever the timing felt right.

The arrangement means Jay-Z will hold two major roles in the production. He will headline the performance while his company serves as its executive producer.

A Long Road to the Super Bowl Stage

Jay-Z previously resisted the idea of headlining the halftime show. He reportedly turned down an earlier opportunity after objecting to conditions connected to the proposed performance.

In a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jay-Z said selecting himself too early would have felt selfish. He left open the possibility of performing in the future.

That moment has now arrived after seven years of Roc Nation’s NFL partnership.

“From ‘Reasonable Doubt’ to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey,” Jay-Z said in the official announcement. He also called the performance a continuation of a dream.

The show follows a major anniversary year for the Brooklyn rapper. His 1996 debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2026.

Jay-Z also performed sold-out anniversary concerts in New York, London, Paris and Los Angeles. His recent SoFi Stadium appearances included guests such as Blue Ivy, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and John Legend.

A Hip-Hop Catalog Built for a Global Audience

Jay-Z enters the Super Bowl with one of hip-hop’s most recognized catalogs. His best-known songs include “99 Problems,” “Hard Knock Life” and “Empire State of Mind.”

The rapper has won 25 Grammy Awards and received 89 nominations. He became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted him in 2021.

No guest performers have been announced. Jay-Z’s long list of collaborators has already fueled speculation, but organizers have not confirmed any additional artists.

Hamish Hamilton will direct the halftime production. Super Bowl LXI will air on ESPN, ABC and Disney+. Spanish-language coverage will be available through ESPN Deportes, Disney+ and Univision.

Tesla Cybercabs in Houston are becoming a more visible presence as the company expands its autonomous ride service. However, the gold two-seat vehicles appear to remain in testing, with no confirmed public Cybercab launch date for Houston.

Tesla Cybercabs in Houston Join Growing Test Fleet

Nearly 200 Cybercabs were reportedly parked at Tesla facilities in Houston during October. The estimate came from aerial footage and vehicle counts by Tesla watchers, not an official company total.

Footage also showed some vehicles leaving the facility for road testing. The Cybercab has no steering wheel or pedals and is designed to operate without a human driver.

Tesla began deploying Cybercabs for public rides in Austin in September. Its latest quarterly update only identified Austin as an active Cybercab market.

Houston residents may still see Cybercabs on local roads during testing. That does not mean every vehicle is available to passengers through the Robotaxi app.

Houston Robotaxi Service Reaches More Neighborhoods

Tesla already offers autonomous Robotaxi rides in limited parts of Houston. The company launched local service using Model Y vehicles before expanding its operating area.

On Oct. 26, Tesla announced a much larger Houston service zone. The updated map reportedly stretches from northwest Houston through Downtown and south of Bellaire.

The expanded area includes major destinations near the Texas Medical Center, River Oaks, the Galleria and West University Place. Exact availability depends on a rider’s pickup point and destination.

Tesla does not publish fixed operating hours for every market. Instead, the Robotaxi app displays current availability, estimated wait times and service boundaries.

According to Tesla’s Robotaxi support page, customers cannot select a Cybercab or Model Y when requesting a ride. The system assigns a vehicle based on availability and group size.

What Riders Should Know About Cybercab

Cybercab has bench seating for two passengers and a central touchscreen. Tesla says its trunk can hold luggage, mobility devices, golf clubs and other personal items.

The Model Y Robotaxi carries up to four passengers. Therefore, larger groups will still need the company’s conventional crossover.

Tesla also applies different age rules to the two vehicles. Children under 13 cannot ride in a Cybercab. Model Y Robotaxis allow children ages 8 through 17 when accompanied by an adult.

Riders must request service through Tesla’s Robotaxi app. The app shows the fare before confirmation and allows passengers to manage climate and entertainment settings.

The app also includes an option to request that the vehicle pull over or stop. Spanish is among the languages supported by the platform.

Safety and Texas Oversight

Tesla reported that its Robotaxi fleet had completed 225,964 autonomous miles in Houston as of Oct. 18. The figure covers its broader Robotaxi operation and does not represent Cybercab-only mileage.

Commercial autonomous vehicle operators must hold authorization from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. State and local law enforcement agencies can enforce traffic and public safety laws involving those vehicles.

Federal regulators are also reviewing the Cybercab. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation in September into Tesla’s certification of the vehicle.

The inquiry focuses on whether a vehicle without traditional controls meets federal safety standards. The investigation does not amount to a finding that Tesla violated those standards.

For now, Houston residents can use the Robotaxi app to check service in their neighborhoods. Cybercabs may be on Houston streets, but Tesla has not confirmed when local customers can regularly request one.

Chris Brown Receives Suspended Prison Sentence After London Nightclub Attack

Chris Brown received a suspended prison sentence Monday for his role in a 2023 London nightclub attack. The R&B singer will avoid immediate incarceration unless he commits another offense during the suspension period.

A judge at Southwark Crown Court sentenced Brown to eight months in prison, suspended for 12 months. The court also ordered him to pay £1,500 toward prosecution costs.

Chris Brown Suspended Sentence Follows Guilty Plea

Brown, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of affray in July. Affray involves unlawful violence that would cause a reasonable person to fear for their safety.

The charge stemmed from an altercation at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on Feb. 19, 2023. Prosecutors said Brown struck music producer Abraham Diaw with a glass tequila bottle.

Security footage showed Brown hitting Diaw twice in the head with the bottle. The confrontation continued as Diaw attempted to move through the club, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Diaw later received hospital treatment for injuries to his head and knee. He was released following treatment.

Judge Tony Baumgartner described Brown’s use of the bottle as dangerous. He said the attack could have caused injuries more serious than those Diaw suffered.

Judge Considers Guilty Plea and Mitigating Factors

Brown had faced up to three years in prison for the affray offense. However, the judge considered his guilty plea and other mitigating factors.

Those factors included Brown’s stable employment, charity work and lack of recent convictions. The judge also stressed that Brown’s fame and commercial success did not entitle him to special treatment.

Brown’s attorney said the singer offered a profound apology to those who witnessed the incident. The defense described the confrontation as an “ugly and unattractive incident” that lasted less than 20 seconds.

Prosecutors previously charged Brown with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assault and possessing an offensive weapon. Those charges were dropped after he entered the guilty plea, according to the Associated Press.

A suspended sentence means Brown will not enter prison immediately. However, the court could activate the eight-month term if he commits another offense during the next year.

Co-Defendant Also Receives Suspended Term

Brown’s vocal coach and friend, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray. The court gave Akinlolu a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Prosecutors said Akinlolu joined the confrontation after Brown initiated the attack. Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 in court costs.

British authorities arrested Brown at a Manchester hotel in May 2025 after he returned to the United Kingdom for a concert. He spent several days in custody before receiving bail.

The court set bail at £5 million, allowing Brown to continue touring in Europe and North America while the case proceeded. He remained free under those conditions until sentencing.

Fans gathered outside the courthouse Monday as Brown arrived and later departed. He did not make a public statement outside the court.

The Chris Brown suspended sentence will remain in effect for one year. The ruling closes the criminal case while leaving the prison term available if Brown violates the law during that period.

15-Year-Old Arrested After Shooting Near Florida A&M Injures 12

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following the Florida A&M shooting that injured 12 people, including six minors. The gunfire erupted Saturday night near the university’s football stadium in Tallahassee.

Police said 11 people suffered gunshot wounds. A 12th person injured an ankle while fleeing the area.

Teen Faces 11 Attempted Murder Counts

Tallahassee police arrested the teenager Sunday, one day after the Oct. 24 shooting. He faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Police also charged him with possession of a firearm by a delinquent. Authorities have not explained how the teenager allegedly obtained the weapon.

The suspect’s arrest followed information and digital evidence submitted by community members. However, the investigation remains active. Police said additional arrests are possible.

“While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over,” Police Chief Lawrence Revell said in a statement published by WFSU Public Media.

Florida A&M Shooting Followed a Fight

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets. The intersection sits close to Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium.

Investigators believe a physical fight occurred before the gunfire. Police said the dispute involved people who knew one another.

None of the injured people appeared to be an intended target, according to the preliminary investigation. Officials have not established a direct connection between the shooting and the university or football game.

The surrounding area was crowded after Florida A&M’s homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Florida A&M lost the game 31-28.

Video shared on social media showed people running after the shots began. Responding officers provided emergency assistance before authorities had fully secured the scene.

Six Minors Among 12 People Injured

Six of the injured people were minors. The youngest victim was 11 years old, according to ABC News.

At least three people suffered serious injuries. One person remained in critical condition during the latest detailed medical update Sunday.

Six victims remained hospitalized Sunday morning, while five had been released. Police did not immediately announce a newer medical update Monday.

At least one of the injured people was a Florida A&M student. University President Marva B. Johnson said the school was providing care and support to affected members of the university community.

University officials emphasized that the shooting happened near campus, rather than on university property. The campus remained secure after the incident.

Police Continue Seeking Information

Detectives continue to review evidence and investigate the events leading to the shooting. Authorities are also working to determine whether anyone else participated.

Police asked witnesses to provide photos, videos or information from the area. Tips can be submitted through the Tallahassee Police Department’s dedicated line at 850-891-4610.

The arrest brought an important development in the Florida A&M shooting investigation. However, questions remain about the dispute, the firearm and whether other suspects were involved.

The R-rated film combines comic book storytelling with body horror. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, an actor who undergoes experimental surgery after suffering a disfiguring attack.

The movie reportedly cost $44 million to produce. That is considerably less than the budgets of many superhero releases. It also earned $19 million internationally during its opening weekend.

Audiences gave “Clayface” an A-minus CinemaScore, according to the Associated Press. The strong audience response could help the film during the Halloween period.

The Texans’ loss to the Giants erased much of the optimism created by two consecutive victories. Houston fell 27-21 in overtime Sunday, dropping to 2-5 after a disjointed performance at Reliant Stadium.

The final score suggests a competitive game. However, the official statistics reveal how thoroughly New York controlled the afternoon.

Texans’ Loss to Giants Exposes Familiar Problems

Houston entered the game with momentum after defeating Tennessee and Jacksonville. A third straight victory could have moved the Texans closer to the AFC South race.

Instead, the offense stalled for most of the second half. Houston finished with only 237 total yards and 15 first downs. The Texans converted three of their 12 third-down attempts.

C.J. Stroud completed 17 of 28 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He avoided turnovers, but Houston struggled to create sustained drives.

The Texans also committed 10 penalties for 80 yards. Those mistakes repeatedly placed the offense behind schedule and erased opportunities to build momentum.

New York produced 440 total yards, including 188 on the ground. The Giants also controlled possession for nearly 36 minutes.

Late Rally Cannot Cover a Poor Performance

Houston showed some fight during the closing minutes. Stroud led a 90-yard touchdown drive after the offense had spent most of the half going nowhere.

He found Xavier Hutchinson for a 3-yard touchdown with 52 seconds remaining. The score tied the game at 21 and forced overtime.

That comeback offered Houston a chance to escape with an unlikely victory. The Texans received the ball first but went three-and-out.

The loss was especially damaging because Houston appeared to be finding stability. Back-to-back victories had created hope that the team’s difficult start was finally behind it.

The Texans remain capable of producing impressive stretches. However, brief rallies cannot replace four quarters of disciplined football.

Houston must respond quickly before another inconsistent performance pushes the season further out of reach. For a team that appeared ready to climb, Sunday’s defeat represented a sharp and embarrassing fall.

Brazoria County residents raise concerns over potential data center project

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A potential data center in Brazoria County is raising concerns among residents, who told ABC13 they’re being left in the dark.

Landowners in Damon said they noticed a company buying more than 400 acres along the Brazos River, which is when they started asking questions.

On Sunday, residents held a community meeting to discuss what they’ve found out so far.

“We got to fight. We got to stop it before it gets here,” one resident said.

They told ABC13 that the county district attorney’s office held a meeting earlier this month and showed them a map of seven parcels of land that included solar panels and batteries. Residents said that infrastructure pointed toward the potential for a data center.

“That means a data center which could have gas turbines, and that means 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year, noise, lights, vibration,” Christine Clark, a concerned citizen, said.

Experts previously told ABC13 that Texas counties have few tools to stop these developments, particularly in unincorporated areas, where regulations and permitting hurdles are limited.

Residents said they’re concerned about what a potential project like this could mean for a place they say is rich in both wildlife and history.

“It concerns the dignity of our ancestors, the preservation of Black family heritage, and our rights to continue caring for our land that has sustained our family for generations,” one community member said.

Residents said the company buying the land is CleanSpark.

In January, CleanSpark announced an agreement to acquire up to 447 acres of land in Brazoria County that was “positioning the Company to develop a large-scale data center project.”

In its press release, CleanSpark called itself America’s Bitcoin Miner, a market-leading data center developer.

ABC13 reached out to the company for more information and is awaiting a response.

This comes as data centers continue to expand across Texas.

ABC13’s data team found that, as of February, 429 data centers were in the state. They found 293 were already operating, and the rest are planned or under construction.

Brazoria County residents hope the place they call home won’t join that growing list.

Despite a push in Congress to keep daylight saving time permanently, the proposal has stalled and most Americans are on track to “fall back” within a month.

That means many Americans will “gain” an extra hour and switch clocks and timepieces back an hour.

Before clock changes kick in, here’s everything to know about daylight saving time.

When does daylight saving time end?

This autumn, daylight saving time is scheduled to end on Nov. 1, 2026 at 2:00 a.m. local time, which then becomes 1:00 a.m. local standard time.

Which states do not observe daylight saving time?

Not all 50 states participate in daylight saving time. Most of Arizona and Hawaii observe standard time year round, according to the Department of Transportation, as well as the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The Navajo Nation in parts of Arizona is an exception to the current rule and observes daylight saving time, like its neighboring lands in New Mexico, Utah and Colorado.

What is the proposal to keep daylight saving time permanently?

Daylight saving time is governed by Title 15, Chapter 6, Subchapter IX – Standard Time of the U.S. Code, which was enacted by Congress. In the fall, the first Sunday in November is when clocks are set back.

The practice of daylight saving time dates back more than 50 years. During the oil crisis of the 1970s, Congress ended daylight saving time to conserve energy, but quickly rolled it back when some parents objected to sending their kids to school in the dark, early morning hours. The legislation was repealed in 1974.

Over the years, the debate to keep or repeal daylight saving time has continued and most recently, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025, sponsored by Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida, passed the House of Representatives with a 308 to 117 majority in favor of ending the practice of changing clocks twice a year.

Proponents of keeping daylight saving time, such as Florida Rep. Gus Bilirakis argue that doing so would benefit the economy and encourage more outdoor activity.

“In a state like Florida, my home state of Florida, where tourism is a cornerstone of our economy, having more predictable daylight hours is a practical improvement that benefits workers, businesses, and visitors alike,” Bilirakis said in Congress on July 14.

Opponents to the bill claim more debate and consideration is needed before such an impactful change across a majority of U.S. states gets implemented.

The bill was sent to the Senate for consideration in July but has since stalled in the chamber.

Movies Releasing This Weekend: ‘Clayface,’ ‘Wildwood’ Lead New Arrivals

Movie theaters will offer horror, animation, science fiction and comedy from Oct. 23 through Oct. 25. The major movies releasing this weekend include Clayface, Wildwood, Klara and the Sun and a new Ali G comedy.

Several strong holdovers will also enter their second weekends. Those films include Street Fighter, Whalefall and the surprise documentary hit You Can See Everything.

‘Clayface’ Brings Horror to the DC Universe

Clayface introduces a darker corner of the DC Universe. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, an aspiring actor whose career ends after a brutal attack leaves him disfigured.

An experimental treatment restores Hagen’s appearance but produces dangerous consequences. The story follows his transformation through body horror and psychological suspense rather than a traditional superhero adventure.

James Watkins directs the R-rated film from a story developed by horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan. Naomi Ackie, Eddie Marsan and Max Minghella also appear. Warner Bros. is releasing the film in theaters and IMAX on Oct. 23.

The Film HQ reports that DC Studios already has plans for the character beyond his solo movie. However, the studio has not announced where Clayface will appear next.

Animated Fantasy Leads Family Options

LAIKA returns to stop-motion animation with Wildwood. The fantasy adventure follows a girl who enters a forbidden forest after crows kidnap her baby brother.

The film adapts the novel by Colin Meloy. Its voice cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett and Awkwafina.

Wildwood comes from the studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman and Kubo and the Two Strings. The movie blends handcrafted animation with a story about family, sacrifice and an endangered magical world.

More Movies Releasing This Weekend

Jenna Ortega stars in Klara and the Sun, director Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel. Ortega plays Klara, an artificial companion searching for a home.

Klara forms a connection with Josie, a teenager whose family is struggling with grief. Amy Adams plays Josie’s mother, while Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne also appear. Sony Pictures will release the PG-13 science-fiction drama in theaters Friday.

Sacha Baron Cohen revives one of his earliest characters in Ali G: Who Iz I? The comedy follows Ali G as he travels to the United States after learning that his longtime girlfriend is pregnant.

Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård lead Wicker, an unusual fantasy romance. Colman plays an isolated fisherwoman who commissions a husband made from wicker, angering her conservative village.

Crime drama fans can also watch A Talent for Murder. Helen Mirren portrays novelist Patricia Highsmith, who enters a tense confrontation with a young literary agent played by Alden Ehrenreich. Olivia Cooke co-stars in the Anton Corbijn film.

The weekend’s limited releases include the Korean relationship drama Possible Love, Japanese romance 5 Centimeters Per Second and science-fiction thriller Terrestrial. Availability will vary by Houston-area theater.

Notable Movies Entering Their Second Weekend

Street Fighter begins its second weekend as the reigning domestic box-office champion. The video game adaptation opened with approximately $30.8 million in North America and $51 million worldwide.

Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo and Callina Liang lead the action film. Its performance gives the new releases a significant competitor for premium screens and younger audiences.

The biggest second-weekend story may be You Can See Everything. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary earned about $15.6 million from only 855 theaters.

The unusual film combines documentary storytelling with Fielder’s unpredictable comedic style. After recording more than 2,000 sold-out screenings during its debut, it expands nationwide this weekend. The Film HQ’s box-office chart placed it second last weekend.

Whalefall also returns after opening with approximately $7.8 million. Austin Abrams stars as a scuba diver trapped inside a sperm whale, while Josh Brolin plays his late father.

Meanwhile, Sense and Sensibility enters its second weekend after earning about $7.2 million. Daisy Edgar-Jones leads the latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel.

With several major premieres and unusual holdovers competing for attention, Houston moviegoers will have choices across nearly every genre. Local listings should be checked for showtimes, formats and limited-release availability.
