Russia Strikes Kyiv Power Facility as Trump Voices He’s ‘Not Happy’

Russia escalated its aerial campaign against Ukraine overnight, targeting critical energy infrastructure as President Donald Trump expressed disapproval of Moscow’s strikes.

Kyiv Energy Plant Hit

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry confirmed a thermal power facility in the Kyiv region was struck by Russian drones, triggering blackouts in parts of the capital. Officials said the attacks were aimed at leaving homes, schools, and hospitals without heat or electricity.

Largest Drone Barrages Yet

Ukraine’s air force reported Russia launched 142 drones overnight, including about 100 Shahed strike drones. Defenders downed or suppressed 112, but 26 impacted across seven locations. The assault followed Saturday’s record bombardment, when 810 drones and 13 missiles were launched, killing at least nine people.

Trump Says He’s “Not Happy”

Speaking in Washington, Trump said he was “not happy about the whole situation,” but emphasized the conflict does not directly involve U.S. troops. He repeated his claim that he could broker peace quickly, while also hinting at tougher sanctions against Moscow.

Humidity drops Monday, paving the way for a sunny and warm week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Get ready Southeast Texas, we’ve got a great stretch of weather this week!

Temperatures Monday morning will fall into the upper 60s to low 70s and you’ll likely begin to feel the drop in humidity too, especially by Monday afternoon. It’s nothing but sunshine for Monday as well with highs only rising into the upper 80s thanks to the less humid, northeasterly breeze that takes over.

A front?! Will this bring us cooler weather

Yes! And that hasn’t happened since May. Right now we’re forecasting morning lows in the upper 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The bigger impact from this weekend front will be the drier, less humid air. You’ll notice a difference in the afternoon with temperatures climb int the low 90s and it doesn’t feel as oppressively hot and heavy outside.

So will these drier days stick around through the weekend?

At this time, the weekend will feel like summer once again with humid morning and hot afternoons with highs in the mid 90s. That said, we can’t rule out a spot shower or storm if an afternoon sea breeze develops. Generally though, rain chances for the weekend look to be about 10-20%.

What is happening in the tropics?

There is no tropical development in the Atlantic Basin expect over the next 7 days, which is incredible considering it is the peak of hurricane season. Daniel Jones delivered a near-flawless performance in his first game with the Indianapolis Colts, leading the team to a dominant 33-8 win over the Miami Dolphins. The victory snapped a nine-year streak of Week 1 losses for Indianapolis.

Carlo Acutis Declared First Millennial Saint

Carlo Acutis, a British-born teenager who died in 2006 at age 15, was canonized Sunday in Vatican City, becoming the first millennial saint in the Catholic Church.

Canonization Ceremony

Pope Leo proclaimed Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati as saints during an open-air Mass in St. Peter’s Square before thousands of young pilgrims. The canonization was part of this year’s Jubilee, which has already drawn more than 32 million visitors to Rome.

Life and Legacy of Acutis

Born in London in 1991 and raised in Milan, Acutis used his computer skills to create websites documenting Eucharistic miracles. He attended daily Mass, helped the poor, and encouraged others to deepen their faith before his death from leukemia. Known as “God’s Influencer,” his tomb in Assisi has become a popular pilgrimage site.

Family and Global Appeal

Acutis’s mother, Antonia Salzano, attended the ceremony with his siblings. She said his example proves that sainthood is possible for ordinary young people. Many Catholic youth say they relate to him because he lived a modern life—playing soccer, coding, and using technology—while devoting himself to faith.

Inspiration for Today’s Generation

In his homily, Pope Leo called the new saints an invitation for young people “not to squander life but to make it a masterpiece.” Acutis, he said, reminded the world that true beauty comes from the soul, not appearances.

Detained South Korean Workers to Return Home

Hundreds of South Korean workers detained in a massive immigration raid at a Hyundai battery plant in Georgia will soon be sent back to South Korea, officials confirmed.

Details of the Raid

On Sept. 4, U.S. immigration agents detained about 475 people, including more than 300 South Koreans, at the under-construction HL-GA Battery Company facility near Savannah. Authorities said the workers violated immigration laws, with some entering illegally and others working on tourist visas.

Agreement with South Korea

South Korea’s Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hun-sik announced that negotiations with U.S. officials had concluded. The workers will complete administrative procedures before flying home on a chartered plane.

Largest Workplace Operation in U.S. History

Federal officials described the raid as the largest single-site workplace enforcement action in Department of Homeland Security history. ICE video showed shackled workers being escorted onto buses.

U.S. Response

The White House has not commented on the deal. Officials said the operation targeted criminal violations of employment laws rather than solely immigration status.

Ukraine Cabinet Building Hit in Russia’s Largest Strike

Ukraine’s cabinet building in Kyiv was struck during Russia’s largest drone and missile attack of the war, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Sunday

Scale of the Attack

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 810 drones and 13 missiles overnight, totaling 823 munitions. Of these, 747 drones and four missiles were intercepted. The strikes hit 33 locations across the country, leaving at least eight civilians dead and 59 injured.

Damage in Kyiv

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the assault damaged the roof and upper floors of the cabinet building in Kyiv’s historic Pecherskyi district. “We will restore the buildings. But lost lives cannot be returned,” she wrote.

Calls for Global Support

Zelenskyy and Svyrydenko urged international partners to step up aid. Zelenskyy condemned the strikes as a “deliberate crime” meant to prolong the war and said new defense measures are being prepared with France.

NATO Response

The barrage prompted NATO to scramble fighter jets in Poland. Polish forces confirmed their air defenses were on maximum alert for three hours during the attack.

Russia’s Claim

Russia’s Defense Ministry said the strikes targeted drone production and military air bases. Meanwhile, officials in southern Russia reported fires and damage caused by falling debris, though no major casualties were recorded.

Scattered storms likely Sunday before conditions dry out Monday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A cool front has arrived Saturday, but it’s stalled and will linger for one more day across Southeast Texas. This means scattered showers and storms are back in the forecast Sunday before drier conditions settle in Monday.

Storms will track from north to south across the region through the day. The best chance for seeing storms for Houston and Harris County looks to be from Noon to 3 p.m., then 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the coastline. And since these are scattered storms, keep in mind not everyone will get rain from these. However, there is the chance a few storms could be on the strong side, especially in the late afternoon, and produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. There is the small chance one of these storms could lead to isolated street flooding Sunday.

Besides the storm threat for Sunday, it’ll be another warm and somewhat humid day with a partly cloudy sky and temperatures climbing into the upper 80s. If you missed out on the rain, temps will make it into the low 90s. And this one last push of rain moving towards the coast should allow for the drier, less humid air and conditions move in from the north for Monday.

Chrysler Recalls Over 91,000 Jeep Hybrid SUVs

Chrysler has issued a major recall impacting nearly 92,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid SUVs due to a software error that could cause a sudden loss of drive power.

Safety Risk Identified

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that the error could lead to a vehicle crash without warning. The recall affects certain 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models.

Cause of the Problem

According to the recall report, the defect stems from a reset in the Battery Pack Control Module that is misread by the Hybrid Control Processor. This overload can unexpectedly cut propulsion while driving.

No Accidents Reported

As of August 18, Chrysler stated it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the issue.

Fix Still in Development

A permanent remedy is under development. Chrysler will begin notifying affected owners by mail no later than October 23. Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, has not yet commented publicly.
