Man Sentenced to Three Years for Throwing Girlfriend’s Dogs from Third-Floor Apartment in Houston

A Houston man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to animal cruelty for throwing his girlfriend’s two dogs from a third-floor balcony. The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office confirmed the conviction of Robert Lee Thomas III following an investigation into the disturbing incident.

Incident Details

The case dates back to April 2024, when Harris County Animal Cruelty Investigators, in collaboration with the Houston SPCA, responded to a report of physical abuse involving two small dogs at an apartment complex in southern Harris County.

Witnesses captured video footage of Thomas throwing a wire dog crate containing a Yorkshire Terrier and a black Chihuahua from the third floor of the building.

Upon arrival, authorities found that the Yorkshire Terrier had sustained severe injuries, including a fractured spine. Due to the extent of its trauma, the dog had to be euthanized. The Chihuahua, though unharmed, was removed from the home to prevent further mistreatment.

Legal Consequences

Following the investigation, Thomas was charged with animal cruelty. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison.
