HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It’s a brand new month, but not much will change with the weather until storm chances return the second half the week.
After a stellar weekend weather wise, we keep the nice conditions rolling into the beginning of the new week. It’ll be comfortably cool once again with temperatures falling into the upper 50s or low 60s Monday morning. We’ll once again see the chance for a few foggy spots, but fog Monday morning is not expected to be as dense as what we saw over the weekend. We’ll have a few clouds to start the day before sunshine takes over in the afternoon and temperatures climb int the low 80s. Winds could gust up to 20 mph at times as well Monday.
What’s the outlook for the first week of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo?
Monday’s forecast couldn’t be more perfect to kickoff the rodeo! It’ll be a tad on the warmer side though with temperatures in the low 80s in the afternoon under a bright, sunny sky. We keep the warm weather throughout the week and eventually add a hefty dose of humidity too by midweek. This is as rain and storm chances climb, with a 30-40% chance for showers and storms daily from Wednesday through Friday.
Tell me more about this stormy pattern we’re entering this week.
Over the next 7 to 10 days, Southeast Texas will be on the southern side of an active jet stream pattern that will usher in several storm systems across the country. This all begins Wednesday, where the Storm Prediction Center is highlighting north-central Texas with a risk for severe weather. While the main threat for severe weather and the most widespread storms is farther north across the state Wednesday through Friday, an approaching front could stall and bring scattered showers and storms our way each day. Right now we have a 30-40% chance for showers and storms in Southeast Texas Wednesday through Friday. Saturday a separate, stronger storms system will move across the Midwest with it’s trailing cold front sweeping through the state over the weekend. This front, paired with another system our west, will bring a better chance for thunderstorms in Southeast Texas both days this coming weekend. It’s still too early to pinpoint any severe risks for Houston this weekend, but it’s something we’re monitoring at this time.
But we need the rain. How much could we pick up this week?
Generally the heaviest rain is going to fall across north Texas this week in the heart of this weather pattern’s storm zone. However, Southeast Texas will likely pick up around 1 to 2 inches of rain on average when all is said and done. Some locally higher amounts are possible with the potential for some area flooding as the heaver rains move in.
