Hidalgo was joined by a group of cheering supporters and friends at the Harris County Democratic Party headquarters.
Hidalgo told supporters that her first run was challenging, and said she did not take anything for granted when she won.
“When I ran the first time around, I believed that our community, our state is great,” Hidalgo said. “We turned a swamp into an economic powerhouse.”
Hidalgo says there is more work to be done as she begins her run for reelection, and is ready to protect the progress she has made for the past three years.
“We have done so much the past four years, and that includes putting politics behind people,” she said. “I know we’re going to win this. I’m ready for the fight.”
