Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reportedly earned an estimated $360 million at the domestic box office, delivering the largest opening weekend in movie history.
The record-breaking Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office debut narrowly surpassed the $357.1 million opening of Avengers: Endgame. Final weekend totals remain subject to confirmation from the studio and theater reporting services.
Spider-Man Passes ‘Avengers: Endgame’
Avengers: Endgame had held the domestic opening-weekend record since April 2019. The Marvel Studios blockbuster reached $357.1 million across its first three days in North American theaters.
At $360 million, Brand New Day finished nearly $3 million above that benchmark. The result represents a record based on unadjusted ticket revenue and does not account for inflation.
The opening also marks a significant increase from Tom Holland’s previous Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted with $260.1 million domestically in December 2021.
That movie achieved its total during the COVID-19 pandemic, when some audiences remained hesitant to return to theaters. It eventually earned more than $1.9 billion worldwide.
Why ‘Brand New Day’ Became a Major Event
Several factors helped turn Brand New Day into one of the year’s most anticipated releases. Holland’s return followed the dramatic conclusion of No Way Home, which left Peter Parker facing an uncertain future.
The earlier movie also united Holland with former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. That crossover expanded interest beyond audiences who entered the franchise through the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Brand New Day begins a new phase for Holland’s version of the character. Its marketing emphasized Peter’s next chapter while protecting major story details from early promotional materials.
Strong advance ticket sales and premium-format screenings also contributed to the opening. Tickets for IMAX and other large-format presentations usually cost more than standard screenings, increasing overall revenue.
Tom Holland Extends His Spider-Man Success
Holland first appeared as Peter Parker in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. He later led three solo movies and appeared in two Avengers films.
Destin Daniel Cretton directed Brand New Day. Cretton previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel Studios.
The new film continues the partnership between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. Sony controls Spider-Man’s film rights, while Marvel connects Holland’s character to its larger cinematic universe.
Spider-Man remains one of the most valuable superhero properties in entertainment. The character has supported several successful film series, animated movies, video games and merchandise collections.
Box Office Record Could Still Change
Opening-weekend estimates usually arrive Sunday before final theater reports become available. Studios may revise their figures Monday after receiving additional sales information.
A small adjustment could matter because Brand New Day finished close to the previous record. Its reported $360 million total gives it a lead of less than 1% over Endgame.
The domestic record also remains separate from the worldwide opening record. International release dates, currency conversions and market availability can affect global comparisons.
Its performance during the second weekend will offer another important test. Major franchise movies often experience sharp declines after unusually large debuts.
However, the historic opening already confirms exceptional demand for Holland’s return. Positive audience response and repeat attendance could help the movie build a lengthy theatrical run.
For theaters, the result provides further evidence that major releases can still attract large crowds. For Spider-Man, it establishes another box-office milestone in a film history spanning more than two decades.
