Lemoine reflects on his time with the Dynamo Academy, RGV FC and path to First Team

Nico Lemoine made his way to Houston Sports Park before the ink dried on his first contract with the Houston Dynamo. The winger is no stranger to the facility after his time with the Dynamo Academy and he credits the Dynamo Academy staff with paving a path to the professional ranks for the 20-year-old.  

“It was a short stint in the Academy playing under Kenny Bundy and Jason Grubb with Paul Holocher helping out. It was great having them,” Lemoine said. “I learned a lot under their coaching. It was great playing there. I got good matches in and it gave me the opportunity to go to RGV. Then, RGV gave me the opportunity to come here.” 

Lemoine made the jump to the professional game with Rio Grande Valley FC, the Dynamo’s USL Championship hybrid affiliate, in 2019. The winger adjusted quickly as he scored his first professional goal in just his second appearance for the South Texas club. Lemoine finished with two goals and an assist in his rookie year with the Toros as a 19-year-old.  

“My time in RGV was unique. I spent a season down there. It gave me a platform to play professional games and play against faster and stronger players,” Lemoine said.  “I think that propelled my career and allowed me to come here.” 

RGV FC head coach Gerson Echeverry is in his third season with the club and this is the first year where he works side-by-side with his former NY/NJ MetroStars teammate, Tab Ramos. Both coaches have spent the last eight months collaborating and mapping a path for future prospects like Lemoine, the fourth player signed from RGV on the active roster. The winger joins Kyle Adams, Memo Rodriguez and Michael Salazar as RGV FC alumni now on the Dynamo First Team.     

Lemoine’s path to the Dynamo continued in February when he joined the team for preseason and tallied an assist in the first scrimmage of the year, a 2-0 victory over Houston Baptist University at HSP. It was the first scrimmage organized by Ramos, and for him, Lemoine’s skills and aggressiveness stand out as he looks to the remainder of the MLS regular season.  

“I’m very excited to have Nico on board because Nico is a very skillful player,” Ramos said. “I think attacking-wise, he can do some things that are a little bit different than other guys. I think he is very direct going to goal and obviously a young player. We’re hoping this is the start for one of the guys we bring along into the future.” 

With the MLS is Back Tournament looming on the horizon and, if the league is able to fulfill its goal of playing regular-season matches in teams’ home markets this fall, it’s a strong bet that every club’s depth will be tested more than ever this year. For Lemoine and other youngsters on the Dynamo roster, that means that the future Ramos speaks of may be here before they know it.

The Houston Dynamo signed Dynamo Academy product Nico Lemoine from the club’s USL affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC (RGV FC), the club announced today.

RGV FC is the Dynamo’s hybrid affiliate in the USL Championship, and Lemoine returns to Houston after one season with the Toros. The speedy winger finished with two goals and an assist in his first season as a professional.

“We are pleased to add Nico to our roster as we prepare to re-start our season heading into the Orlando tournament. He is a player who spent the preseason with the First Team and showed he has the ability to effectively create chances in the wide areas of the field,” said Dynamo Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan. “Nico has worked his way up through our system, and at just 20 years old we look forward to seeing his continued development.”

Lemoine was a standout performer for the Dynamo U-19 Academy team. The 20-year-old signed a USL contract with RGV FC on March 8, 2019 and scored his first goal as a professional against the Tulsa Roughnecks on March 29, 2019, his second appearance for the Toros. Lemoine went on to play in 19 games for the South Texas club in 2019.

The 20-year-old is the fourth Dynamo Academy product on the First Team roster, joining defender Erik McCue, midfielder Marcelo Palomino and midfielder Memo Rodriguez. He is the 12th Academy alumnus to sign with the Dynamo First Team.

With the addition of Lemoine, the Dynamo now have 28 players under contract for the 2020 season.

Dynamo sign midfielder Juan Castilla to Homegrown Player contract

The Houston Dynamo signed Academy product Juan Castilla to a Homegrown Player contract that is effective January 1, 2021, the club announced today. 

At 15 years old, Castilla is the youngest Homegrown Player signing in club history and the 13th Dynamo Academy alumnus to sign a professional contract with the Club. The midfielder joined the Dynamo Academy in 2016 as an 11-year-old to compete at the Under-12 level.

“This is a special day for our entire club to announce the addition of Juan Castilla as our youngest-ever Homegrown signing. Juan has worked his way up through our Academy to earn this opportunity, and his quality as a player along with his strong mentality and willingness to learn exemplify what we look for in all of our young players,” said Dynamo Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan. “I’d also like to acknowledge the leadership of our Academy Director Paul Holocher and the hard work and commitment from our Academy staff to help Juan get to this point, understanding that this is the next step in the development process.”

Castilla was one of four Academy players called up by head coach Tab Ramos to join the Dynamo for preseason trips to Tucson, Ariz. and the Rio Grande Valley prior to the 2020 season. The midfielder saw competitive action during both trips, as he entered for the final period of a scrimmage between the Dynamo and RGV FC and came on as a second-half substitute in Arizona during a closed-door scrimmage against Real Salt Lake.  

“Juan is an outstanding young midfielder with an excellent combination of technical quality, composure and game insight,” said Dynamo Academy Director Paul Holocher. “When a player from the Academy becomes a professional it is always exciting,  but in this case it is extra special as Juan started with the Academy from a young age and he has Houston in his heart. It is going to be exciting to see him continue to develop and grow as a young professional.”

The 15-year-old was a key member of the Dynamo Academy U-17 squad that qualified for the Generation adidas Cup Final earlier this year at Houston Sports Park. It was the first time that the Dynamo Academy U-17s qualified for the final round of the annual tournament.  

Castilla will officially join the Dynamo First Team as a Homegrown Player on January 1, 2021, but will train with the First Team while continuing to compete with the Dynamo Academy for the remainder of the year.

Houston Dynamo to face Los Angeles FC, LA Galaxy & Portland Timbers in MLS is Back Tournament

The Houston Dynamo were drawn into Group F along with Los Angeles Football Club, the LA Galaxy and the Portland Timbers earlier today for the MLS is Back Tournament this summer in Orlando, Florida.  

The Dynamo will face the Galaxy in a rematch of Opening Day, when they played to a 1-1 draw in front of a sold-out crowd at BBVA Stadium on Feb. 29. Houston will also face an LAFC side which features the 2019 MLS Most Valuable Player, Carlos Vela. The Timbers, who are led by 2017 league MVP Diego Valeri, round out the group.   

A full schedule with dates, kickoff times and broadcast information will be announced in the coming days.  

Clubs will begin arriving in Orlando as early as June 24 for preseason training.  Clubs that can conduct full team training in their markets pursuant to the league’s medical and testing protocols must arrive no later than seven days before their first match.   

Each team will play three group stage matches, and those results will count in the 2020 MLS regular season standings.  After 16 consecutive days of group stage matches, the top two teams from each group along with the four best third-place finishers will move on to the knockout stage. MIAMI, Florida (June 17, 2020). Global Latin music idol MALUMA is currently #1 on radio with his latest single “ADMV” in Colombia, Chile, Panama, Costa Rica and Paraguay, according to Monitor Latino. Last week the beloved ballad was #1 on radio in Mexico. “ADMV” was also #1 for five consecutive weeks in the Dominican Republic, as well as two weeks in a row in Ecuador.

La búsqueda de velocidad de Ford comenzó con Henry Ford en 1901 y las raíces de la compañía en el sector aeroespacial solo aumentaron su deseo de entregar vehículos más ágiles, rápidos y potentes. Recordando la hazaña de Chuck Yeager convirtiéndose en el primero en romper la barrera del sonido – Mach 1 – Ford entregó su Mach 1 original en 1969, estableciendo 295 récords de velocidad y resistencia en su primer año modelo en el Bonneville Salt Flats. Gracias a su capacidad de manejo adicional, los equipos Mach 1 ganaron campeonatos consecutivos de Rally de Fabricantes de SCCA en 1969 y 1970. Al igual que el original, el nuevo Mach 1 cierra la brecha entre los modelos Mustang GT y Shelby®, brindando potencia V-8, mejoras aerodinámicas funcionales únicas, actualizaciones de suspensión aptas para la competencia y una cabina enfocada en el conductor. Recapturando el estilo Mach 1

Flanqueando la fascia hay nuevas rejillas laterales debajo de cada luz de señal de giro. Una placa de pony Magnético de bajo brillo se centra en la rejilla. Los acentos negros y magnéticos de bajo brillo en todo el vehículo brindan una apariencia premium mientras se mantienen fieles a la herencia audaz y musculosa de Mach 1, incluidas las tapas de espejo Magnético de bajo brillo y el alerón trasero.

Las nuevas llantas de aluminio pintadas Tarnished Black de 19 pulgadas x 9.5 pulgadas y cinco radios de 19 pulgadas x 10 pulgadas son una versión moderna de las ruedas clásicas de estilo Magnum 500. El interior presenta un exclusivo panel de instrumentos Dark Spindrift con detalles en aluminio. Los asientos de ébano con una franja decorativa insinúan el patrimonio Mach 1 en los automóviles equipados con un interior de cuero. Otras mejoras en el interior incluyen nuevas placas de umbral de la puerta, una pantalla de bienvenida actualizada en el grupo de instrumentos de LCD de 12.3 pulgadas, una perilla de cambio de bola blanca y una placa grabada que muestra el número de chasis único del vehículo.

Mach 1: Fabricado para rendir

Los equipos de ingeniería y diseño de Mach 1 trabajaron en conjunto para desarrollar un frontal único para el personaje de Mach 1 que también cumple con las altas demandas aerodinámicas del motor, la transmisión y los sistemas de frenado.

Una nueva rejilla superior de dos piezas, una rejilla inferior y cenefa además de nuevas rejillas laterales contribuyen al aspecto característico de Mach 1 y a los requisitos más exigentes de rendimiento aerodinámico y de enfriamiento.

Un divisor delantero optimizado para la forma de la fascia mejora el rendimiento de la pista y proporciona una apariencia más agresiva, mientras que un alerón trasero combinado funciona en concierto para crear un equilibrio de elevación ideal. Mach 1 presenta un 22 por ciento más de carga aerodinámica que un Mustang GT con Performance Pack Level 1 y la mejora de la carga aerodinámica salta a aproximadamente un 150 por ciento con el Paquete de Manejo.

Para mejorar la resistencia de la pista, el equipo agregó dos intercambiadores de calor laterales, uno para enfriar el aceite del motor, el otro el aceite de transmisión, así como un sistema de enfriamiento del eje trasero y un difusor inferior del Shelby GT500.

El Mustang Mach 1 2021 completamente nuevo y de edición limitada llegará a los concesionarios Ford de EE. UU. Y Canadá en la primavera de 2021.

Houston City Council Unanimously Approves Mayor Turner’s Proposed Budget. Budget avoids furloughs and funds police and fire cadet classes.

HOUSTON – After six hours of discussion and consideration of several proposed amendments, the Houston City Council today approved Mayor Sylvester Turner’s proposed $5.1 billion operating budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

This year, the City of Houston faced a $169 million budget crisis – the worst in recent history – exacerbated by the decline in sales tax revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Through belt-tightening and by tapping into the $404 million in CARES Act funding, Mayor Turner and the City Council managed to pass a fiscally responsible budget that balances revenue and spending without furloughing city employees. 

The approved FY 2021 $5.1 billion budget provides:

  • Funding for five police cadet classes
  • Funding for four fire department cadet classes
  • Restores the City’s fund balance to over eight percent 
  • The ability of the City to move forward on its top priorities.

“I want to thank each city council member for the work they put in and for unanimously passing the budget. It is a balanced budget that meets the needs of Houston residents,” said Mayor Turner. “We are funding parks, trash collection, libraries, and upgrades to our drainage and streets. This budget provides the basic services our residents expect and deserve.”

Unlike other municipalities, the City of Houston must operate under the property tax revenue cap, while contending with the loss of revenue from COVID-19 in FY2021 and possibly beyond.

HARRIS COUNTY COVID-19 RELIEF FUND DISTRIBUTES $15 MILLION IN AID TO LOCAL COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS

The Harris County COVID-19 Relief Fund is disbursing $15 million to 44 local, community-based organizations that will provide vulnerable individuals and families support for housing, electricity, food, childcare and other essential needs. These trusted, high-performing organizations are actively supporting the community, and have a deep understanding of those impacted by the global pandemic. They will utilize funds to provide financial assistance to eligible individuals and families they are already engaged with.

“This first round of funding disbursement is an important step forward in helping our county’s most vulnerable, hard-working families,” said Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. “The economic fallout from COVID-19 has caused incredible financial hardship on our community and we’ll continue to do all we can to get relief to those that need it most. I’m proud to partner with the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the many nonprofits who have stepped up to make an impactful difference in Harris County.” 

Commissioners Court established the Harris County COVID-19 Relief Fund to provide much-needed relief to Harris County residents most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The $30 million fund, which is administered by Greater Houston Community Foundation, aims to strategically serve a large number of the most vulnerable individuals and families, in particular county residents who may not be eligible for other COVID-related funding or assistance. 

“I’m extremely excited that our most vulnerable neighbors in the Harris County communities hardest hit by the pandemic are going to begin receiving financial relief. Our neighbors who have a greater risk of losing everything require support to meet their most basic needs of food, shelter, childcare and medical costs,” Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis said. “On behalf of Harris County residents, I give my sincere thanks to Greater Houston Community Foundation and the trusted nonprofits embedded in culturally and geographically diverse communities for getting this program up and running in a three-week period.”

Disbursement of the $15 million marks a significant milestone of the Fund’s first phase. In its second phase, the Fund will invite all eligible low-income Harris County residents to complete an application either online or over the phone. The application will screen for key eligibility criteria. Recipients must: 

·       Be eligible for and receiving services from a long list of public benefits programs OR be under 60% of area median income 

·       Be a resident of Harris County

·       Have been economically impacted by COVID-19

·       Not have received funding from a City or County COVID-19 financial assistance program

The public application will open Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24, 2020. More detailed information regarding eligibility requirements, how to access the application online and over the phone, and what residents will need to prepare for the application will be released in the coming week. The latest updates about the fund will be posted on the fund’s website at www.harriscountyrelief.org.  

“I am pleased to see this happening for so many in our communities who are struggling because of this pandemic. There is an urgent need, so there is no time to sit idly by,” said Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia. “This fund is intended to provide emergency financial assistance to families who need it the most and who are most at risk of being evicted from their homes. I am confident that our partners at The Greater Houston Community Foundation will do good a job managing this fund.”
