Rockstar Games has opened preorders for a limited GTA 6 Collector’s Box priced at $399.99. However, the package does not include a physical copy, download code or any edition of Grand Theft Auto VI.
That detail quickly became the center of online criticism. Other fans defended the package as a merchandise collection intended for serious collectors rather than a traditional game edition.
What Comes in the GTA 6 Collector’s Box?
Officially titled Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, the box contains 11 items. Its theme comes from Macca the Gator, a fictional television character from the game’s state of Leonida.
The largest collectible is a six-inch Macca figure with a hidden storage compartment. Macca appears with a cigar and what Rockstar describes as a flamingo blood martini.
The box also includes matte black Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses and a pink GTA VI logo. A New Era 9FORTY snapback hat features Vice City and Leonida designs.
Other items include:
- A Leonida Keys crossbody bag
- A Macca the Gator magnetic mirror
- A Chunkee the Manatee shot glass
- A Vice City swizzle spoon
- A razor blade-shaped keychain
- Nine enamel pins in a metal tin
- Nine stickers in a themed bag
- A double-sided poster with a full map of Leonida
The package measures 19 inches by 13.5 inches by 12.5 inches. It is intended for buyers 18 and older.
The Game Is Sold Separately
Rockstar clearly states that Grand Theft Auto VI is not included. Buyers must purchase the Standard or Ultimate Edition separately to play the game.
The collector’s box is also ineligible for free shipping, adding another cost to the $399.99 price. Rockstar plans to begin shipping the limited-edition package on Nov. 19, the scheduled release date for GTA 6.
Preorders are available through the Rockstar Store while supplies last. The company said ordering information for Latin America, Asia and Australia will come later.
Fans Question the Price and Theme
Many reactions focused on the absence of the game. Fans argued that a $400 collector’s product should include at least a download code, especially when Rockstar is presenting it alongside one of the year’s biggest releases.
Some players also questioned the heavy focus on Macca the Gator. They expected a premium statue or artwork featuring protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Comments across GTA communities described the package as overpriced and compared it unfavorably with older collector’s editions. The 2013 GTA V Collector’s Edition included the game, a security bag, branded cap, blueprint map and digital extras at a much lower original price.
Other fans noted that Rockstar used a similar game-free approach with the Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector’s Box. Supporters also pointed to the licensed Oakley sunglasses and New Era hat as items with meaningful retail value.
Collectors Still Face a Difficult Choice
The box’s limited availability may attract dedicated Rockstar collectors despite the criticism. Past GTA merchandise can become expensive on resale markets, creating pressure to preorder early.
For most players, purchasing the game separately makes the total cost the deciding issue. The package delivers an extensive set of Vice City-themed merchandise, but it does not function as a complete GTA 6 edition.
