A former contestant from American Idol has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife at their home in Ohio, authorities said.
Caleb Flynn, 39, was taken into custody Thursday following an investigation into the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, in Tipp City, just north of Dayton.
Victim Found After Reported Break-In

Police responded around 2:30 a.m. Monday after receiving a call reporting a possible burglary at the couple’s residence. Dispatch logs indicated the garage door was open and it was unclear whether a suspect remained inside.
Ashley Flynn was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said there were signs of forced entry and confirmed she had been shot twice.
Three days later, investigators arrested Caleb Flynn and charged him with:
- One count of murder
- Two counts of felonious assault
- Two counts of tampering with evidence
Police said probable cause supported the charges but declined to release additional details because the investigation is ongoing.
Federal Authorities Join Investigation
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been asked to assist due to the seriousness of the case. Officials emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway for the family and community.
Past TV Appearance Resurfaces
Following the arrest, clips from Flynn’s time on American Idol resurfaced online, including an interview where he spoke affectionately about his wife and compared her to former winner Carrie Underwood.
Community Mourning Teacher and Coach
Ashley Flynn worked as a volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School and served as a substitute teacher in the local school district. In a tribute, colleagues described her as kind, warm, and impactful both in the classroom and on the court.
A celebration of life was planned at the couple’s church as the community continues to mourn. Authorities said the case remains active and additional information may be released as the investigation progresses.
