At least 16 documents related to Jeffrey Epstein disappeared from the Justice Department’s public webpage less than a day after being posted, according to an Associated Press review. The DOJ has not explained why the files were removed or notified the public of the change.
Missing Images Raise Questions
The unavailable files included photographs of artwork depicting nude women and images showing photographs stored inside Epstein’s home. One image included a photograph of President Donald Trump alongside Epstein, Melania Trump and Ghislaine Maxwell. The Justice Department declined to comment on the removal, AP reported.
Lawmakers and Public Demand Transparency
The unexplained disappearance fueled online speculation and criticism from Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, who pointed to the missing Trump image and called for greater transparency, according to AP.
Concerns Over Limited Disclosures
The episode added to frustration surrounding the DOJ’s broader Epstein document release, which has produced tens of thousands of pages but little new insight into Epstein’s crimes or prosecutorial decisions. Key materials, including FBI interviews with victims and internal Justice Department charging memos, remain absent, AP reported.
Victims Express Anger and Disappointment
Some Epstein accusers said the staggered and incomplete release has deepened their sense of betrayal. “I feel like again the DOJ, the justice system is failing us,” Marina Lacerda said, according to AP.
Rolling Release Continues
Despite a congressional deadline, the Justice Department says records will continue to be released on a rolling basis, citing the need to protect survivors’ identities. Critics argue the lack of clarity and missing files undermine public trust and accountability in one of the most closely scrutinized cases in recent history.
