LEAGUE CITY, Texas (KTRK) — League City voters have decided their police department should no longer use Flock Safety’s license plate reading cameras.

More than half of voters approved Proposition A, and the city said it would begin removing the cameras the day after Election Day.

The city said it would purge any information in the League City Police Department system that was not a part of an active investigation after 30 days, as the previously approved policy stated.

Next, the city manager will review its agreements with Flock Safety and pursue ways to comply with the camera-removal requirements of the voted resolution.

The city council must approve the final termination agreement with Flock Safety.

League City said in a statement that it will identify homeowners’ associations with Flock cameras within the city’s rights-of-way and work with them to create a timeline to remove the cameras.

The city said the city manager will identify ways to use the funding for other purposes and present them to the city council.

League City Mayor Nick Long previously told Eyewitness News that he heard citizens’ concerns and wanted to give them a say in the issue.

“Heard from a lot of citizens that they wanted a say on the issue,” Mayor Long previously said.
