HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — An investigation is underway after officials said a driver was killed in a fiery crash on West Grand Parkway on Sunday morning.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 16800 block of West Grand Parkway at about 3:40 a.m. in reference to the crash.

Investigators said that the driver was in a 2017 white Buick Encore when they failed to stay in a single lane and exited the roadway into a grass median.

Authorities said the driver continued northbound until they reached the end of the median, which opened to the underpass. The vehicle then went airborne before hitting the wall on the opposite side and catching fire with the driver inside, HCSO said.

Officials said the Spring Creek Fire Department responded to the scene, where they found the driver inside with no signs of life. Authorities said the driver is currently unidentified.

HCSO said its vehicular crimes division is leading the ongoing investigation.
