BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) — What was supposed to be a nice Friday night dinner at home for a Baytown family turned into a place of fear for Katy Clark after gunfire erupted in her neighborhood on East Texas Avenue.

According to the Baytown Police Department, a suspect was rushed to the hospital after he exchanged gunfire with officers at a home on East Texas Avenue near 3rd Street shortly before 11 p.m.

When officers arrived, they said they “encountered the suspect, who fired at an officer,” according to a statement from police.

Neighbor Katy Clark said her son heard arguing next door before he ran out of his room and told her he felt something violent was going to happen.

“I heard the lady over there scream bloody murder. She’s screaming, ‘no, no, no, don’t’ and then you hear POW, POW, POW,” Clark said.

Clark said she immediately called 911, but the gunshots didn’t stop.

“While I’m on the phone with them, they’re dispatching police officers, and the second I hang up, you hear another round,” she said.

The department said the officer was not injured, but did not reveal the suspect’s condition.

While her family wasn’t hurt, Clark found a bullet went through her son’s bedroom and a car.

“Right underneath my son’s gaming desk, where he had just been sitting, there’s a bullet hole through the wall and a bullet lying on the floor right there,” Clark said.

For Clark, it wasn’t the damage to the home or vehicle that hurt the most.

“How reckless and heartless can you be to point a gun and aim it blindly? You fired through my house. My kid could’ve been right there,” she said.

Right now, police haven’t said what led up to the shooting or if the suspect is currently facing any charges.
