With no major new releases, holiday films continued to dominate the box office, posting stronger-than-expected numbers and steady weekend drops.
‘Avatar’ crosses major milestones
Avatar: Fire and Ash added $40 million in its third weekend, pushing its domestic total to $306 million. Worldwide, the film surpassed $1 billion, now sitting at about $1.08 billion, with a $400 million domestic finish well within reach.
‘Zootopia 2’ and other films show staying power
Zootopia 2 held impressively, dipping just 4.2% to $19 million and reaching $363 million domestically and $1.58 billion worldwide. The Housemaid also remained strong with $14.8 million in its third weekend, while Marty Supreme ($12.5 million) and Anaconda ($10 million) rounded out the top five.
Quiet debut, busy weeks ahead
The only new wide release, We Bury the Dead starring Daisy Ridley, opened just outside the top 10 with $2.5 million. New releases, including Greenland 2: Migration and the horror film Primate, are expected to shake up the box office next weekend.
