HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another round of scattered storms will impact your Father’s Day plans Sunday. And because of the threat for strong winds, heavy rainfall and lightning, the ABC13 Weather Watch continues for one more day on Father’s Day.

We are starting off Sunday mostly clear but clouds will build throughout the morning, and as a sea breeze gets going, we’ll see isolated showers and storms develop along the coast in the morning that will track north, grow and intensify into the afternoon. Scattered storms are expected across Southeast Texas throughout the afternoon and evening hours and could bring gusty winds, heavy downpours and lots of lightning.

When can we expect some drier weather?

Right now we have a daily rain chance through late next week, but it’s 40% or less starting Monday. Every day should feature a muggy morning in the 70s and a hot afternoon in the mid 90s before scattered showers and storms pop up to cool things off in some Houston-area neighborhoods.

When the forecast turns drier, will it also get hotter?

Yep! But it’s a gradual warm up for now. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 90s when a drier pattern takes over heading into next weekend.

What’s happening in the tropics?

At this time, the Atlantic basin is filled with a Saharan dust cloud, limiting tropical development and bringing a slightly hazy sky to Southeast Texas. Meanwhile Delila is spinning off the Pacific coast of Mexico. For a thorough update and in-depth video on what’s happening in the tropics, head to our tropical update page.
