The pursuit of justice is never the responsibility of one person or one organization. It requires collaboration, transparency, and a shared commitment to ensuring that every family is treated with dignity and respect.

That spirit was on full display during a recent meeting at the Mexican Consulate in Houston, where community leaders, advocates, nonprofit organizations, and public officials came together to discuss ongoing efforts related to the death of Lorenzo Salgado and the continued support of his family.

The meeting served as an opportunity to strengthen communication, coordinate resources, and reaffirm a collective commitment to seeking answers through lawful processes and collaboration.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Frank Gonzalez from Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia’s office, Teodoro Aguiluz of LULAC District 18, Diane Osmond and her LULAC district, Cesar Espinoza of FIEL, David Cruz with LULAC National Media, and the many community advocates who continue dedicating their time and energy to serving others.

Most importantly, I extend my deepest appreciation to the Mexican Consulate for opening its doors and welcoming our coalition with professionalism and respect. This was not a ceremonial meeting or a photo opportunity. It was a productive working session where information was shared, partnerships were strengthened, and strategies for continued collaboration were discussed.

The Consul reaffirmed that the Mexican Consulate remains committed to working alongside community organizations and that its doors will remain open to collaborative efforts aimed at supporting Mexican nationals and their families. That commitment sends a powerful message that diplomacy, community advocacy, and public service can work together in meaningful ways.

As Educational Chair of the Greater Houston Justice Coalition, I believe our responsibility extends beyond raising awareness. We must build bridges between communities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and advocacy groups so families know they are not facing difficult moments alone.

The Lorenzo Salgado case has touched many throughout Houston and beyond. It has reminded us that every life matters and that every family deserves compassion, transparency, and a fair process. Regardless of background or nationality, our communities deserve accountability, respectful dialogue, and institutions willing to work together.

Houston has always been strengthened by its diversity. When leaders from different organizations come together with a common purpose, we create opportunities for lasting change. Meetings like this demonstrate that collaboration—not division—is what moves communities forward.

The Greater Houston Justice Coalition remains committed to working alongside community partners, elected officials, and the Mexican Consulate in support of justice, transparency, and the well-being of the families we serve.

This meeting marked an important step, but our work is far from over. We will continue listening, collaborating, and advocating until every family feels heard, respected, and supported.

Justice is built through unity, and unity begins when we choose to work together.
