Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained the top movie at the Labor Day box office, extending its first-place run to six consecutive weekends. The Sony superhero film earned an estimated $18.2 million from Friday through Sunday.
Sony projected a four-day holiday total of approximately $23.3 million. The movie has now earned more than $917 million domestically and $2.4 billion worldwide.
Spider-Man Dominates the Labor Day Box Office
Brand New Day became only the second movie this decade to lead the domestic box office for six straight weekends. Avatar: The Way of Water previously reached that milestone after its 2022 release.
The fourth standalone Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland also passed $900 million in domestic ticket sales. It is approaching the domestic record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned about $936.7 million.
The superhero film has shown staying power despite several major releases entering theaters since its July debut. Its holiday performance also helped close a strong summer season for Hollywood.
The Odyssey Holds Strong in Second Place
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey remained in second place with approximately $13.1 million over the three-day weekend, according to The Numbers.
Universal projected a four-day Labor Day total near $17.2 million. The epic has earned about $585 million domestically after eight weekends.
Its worldwide total has climbed to approximately $1.63 billion. That makes it one of the year’s largest global releases.
The movie declined only slightly from the previous weekend. Its strong hold reflects continued audience interest even as the fall release calendar begins.
Coyote vs. Acme Continues Theatrical Run
Coyote vs. Acme finished third with an estimated $12 million during its second weekend. The live-action and animated comedy expanded to 3,727 North American theaters.
Its domestic total reached approximately $34.5 million through Sunday. The movie’s release followed years of uncertainty after its original distributor shelved the completed project.
Ketchup Entertainment later acquired the film and scheduled a theatrical release. The unusual path to theaters generated attention among animation fans and film industry observers.
By Any Means Leads New Releases
Paramount’s By Any Means posted the strongest debut among new releases. The historical crime drama earned approximately $7.4 million from Friday through Sunday.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. It opened in more than 2,900 theaters and was projected to reach about $9.2 million over the four-day holiday period.
Insidious: Out of the Further completed the top five with approximately $6.5 million. The horror sequel raised its domestic total to about $54 million.
A rerelease of Pixar’s Cars followed with roughly $6.1 million. Its performance showed continued interest in family films and familiar theatrical titles.
Hollywood Ends Summer With Major Growth
The 2026 summer movie season generated approximately $4.61 billion in domestic ticket sales from May through August, according to entertainment data company Rentrak.
That total represented a 26.1% increase from summer 2025. It also ranked behind only 2013 among modern summer seasons based on unadjusted ticket revenue.
Higher ticket prices contributed to the total, while overall attendance remained below many pre-pandemic years. Still, hits such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey and Toy Story 5 helped theaters achieve their strongest summer in more than a decade.
The Labor Day results now provide Hollywood with momentum heading into the fall movie season, when new horror films, dramas and awards contenders will compete for audiences.
