A Harris County crash on FM 2920 left a 2-year-old child dead and sent two others to the hospital Saturday afternoon, according to investigators. The crash happened in the Hockley area of northwest Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened in the 26000 block of FM 2920 near Hegar Road.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a U-Haul driver was traveling westbound when the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle then veered into the opposite lanes.
Investigators said a mother driving a Jeep had two children inside the vehicle. Gonzalez said the mother moved away to avoid a possible head-on collision with the U-Haul.
The Jeep then entered a ditch, according to officials.

FM 2920 Crash Brings Renewed Safety Concerns
The fatal crash adds to ongoing traffic safety concerns across fast-growing parts of northwest Harris County. FM 2920 serves several communities, including Hockley, Waller-area neighborhoods and parts of the greater Houston region.
Roads in expanding suburban areas often carry a mix of local traffic, commercial vehicles and long-distance drivers. That can increase risk, especially on busy routes with higher speeds.
Investigators have not released a full crash report. They also have not said whether road conditions, speed or other factors played a role.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division typically reviews fatal crashes. That process can include witness statements, vehicle inspections and scene evidence.
Officials Continue Reviewing the Case
The sheriff’s office has not announced additional updates in the case as of Sunday morning.
Families in the area may see continued attention around FM 2920 as investigators complete their review. Drivers are urged to remain alert, avoid fatigue behind the wheel and use extra caution on high-speed roadways.
The death of a young child marks a painful reminder of how quickly a routine trip can turn tragic. The community now waits for investigators to determine what happened and whether any further action will follow.
