2 suspects wanted for murder in Louisiana arrested in Brazoria County, sheriff’s office says

0

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Two suspects wanted for a murder in Louisiana were arrested on Saturday in Brazoria County, according to authorities.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received an alert at about 12 p.m. from Flock Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) about a vehicle driving in Manvel that the Marksville Police Department in Louisiana had added to a hot list.

Officials said the vehicle was believed to be occupied by two suspects in the murder of a 51-year-old man that happened in Marksville four days earlier.

BCSO said at about 1 p.m., BCSO deputies found the vehicle traveling northbound on Cullen Boulevard in Pearland. After a deputy activated the emergency lights and called for additional units, the driver pulled into a parking lot, according to BCSO. That’s when deputies, as well as DPS troopers, conducted a high-risk traffic stop, officials said.

Authorities said there were two people inside the vehicle, who BCSO identified as the suspects wanted in the murder, 27-year-old Dawayne Richard and 29-year-old Tylan Turpeau.

Investigators said deputies found a handgun in the vehicle with a serial number that matched that of the firearm used in the murder.

BCSO said Richard and Turpeau were taken into custody and booked into the Brazoria County Detention Center.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2026 Returns to Los Angeles With Star-Studded Runway

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2026 returned Sunday, Oct. 18, with veteran models, new faces and an all-women musical lineup. Held at Sony Studios in Culver City, California, the event marked the show’s first Los Angeles edition in 19 years.

The runway combined the brand’s familiar wings and lingerie with updated designs and a broader range of talent. Kylie Jenner delivered the night’s biggest surprise by making her Victoria’s Secret runway debut.

Kylie Jenner Debuts in Record-Setting Fantasy Bra

Jenner appeared in the show’s newly revived Fantasy Bra, which returned to the runway for the first time since 2018.

Victoria’s Secret created the piece with luxury jewelry company Jacob & Co. According to Vogue, the bra features 4,410 natural diamonds. A 75.54-carat yellow diamond sits at its center.

Fifteen craftspeople reportedly spent more than 1,000 hours building the design. Valued at $50 million, it became the most expensive Fantasy Bra in the brand’s history.

Jenner completed the look with white feathered wings, a sheer skirt and clear heels. Her appearance connected one of the show’s best-known traditions with a major contemporary pop culture figure.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2026 Brings Back Famous Faces

Bella Hadid opened the show in a floral-inspired look with elaborate wings. Her sister, Gigi Hadid, also returned to the runway.

The model lineup brought together several generations of Victoria’s Secret stars. Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Ashley Graham, Joan Smalls, Paloma Elsesser, Anok Yai and Alex Consani were among the participants.

Creative director Adam Selman divided the runway into seasonal chapters. The collections ranged from floral corsetry to pastel slips inspired by the brand’s late-1990s and early-2000s designs.

The Pink collection featured brighter colors, bold prints and logo-focused separates. Solange Omon also made her runway debut after winning the brand’s “Angels Among Us” model search.

Latina Models Add Representation to the Runway

Several Latina and Latin American models took part in the show. The group included Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls, Cuban American model Devyn Garcia and Brazilian stars Adriana Lima and Gabriela Moura.

Paloma Elsesser, who has Chilean and Swiss heritage through her father, also returned. Her participation continued the show’s recent effort to feature more body types and backgrounds.

Smalls has walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since 2011. Lima, meanwhile, remains one of the company’s most recognizable models. She first appeared in the show in 1999.

Women Artists Power the Soundtrack

The show featured performances from Tate McRae, KATSEYE, Megan Moroney and Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

McRae performed “Housewife” and “Sports Car,” while KATSEYE brought “Pinky Up” to the Pink segment. Moroney delivered a country medley that included “6 Months Later,” “Wish I Didn’t” and “Sorry… I Meant Tonight.”

Megan Thee Stallion performed “Her” and “Body,” adding a hometown connection for Houston audiences. The rapper appeared with gold wings during her high-energy set.

The full show streamed through Victoria’s Secret’s official YouTube channel, as well as its TikTok and Instagram accounts. The digital broadcast gives viewers another opportunity to see the runway, performances and return of the Fantasy Bra.

1 dead, 3 hurt in shooting after softball game near sports complex in northeast Harris County: HCSO

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — One person was killed, and three others were hurt after a shooting near a sports complex in northeast Harris County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that the deadly shooting was reported around 9:25 Sunday night in the 9800 block of Wyatt Shores Drive, near the Fall Creek Sports Complex.

An ABC13 camera crew at the scene captured the active investigation.

Deputies said two groups of people were playing softball when a fight broke out. They said the fight continued into the parking lot and that’s where the shooting happened.

In an update Monday morning, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the man who was killed as 36-year-old Jarmon Mattix.

HCSO said the other three people who were shot are expected to survive.

The sheriff’s office said there are two potential shooters, and both of them were still on the scene when deputies arrived. Gonzalez said they have identified those involved in the shooting and are conducting follow-up interviews.

“What we know now is that there were two groups of people out here playing softball. There was some type of disturbance. That disturbance ended up moving into the parking lot. Once they got into the parking lot, witnesses reported hearing gunshots. And at that point, they found our victim lying in the parking lot deceased,” HSCO Sgt. Sidney Miller said.

Service member died from fall before Navy-UTSA game, Air Force says

0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A service member has died from his injuries after he fell while attempting to rappel from the rafters of the Alamodome during a pregame demonstration before UTSA’s football game against Navy on Saturday, the Air Force said.

Nellis Air Force Base Public Affairs issued a statement saying the service member, who was assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, was injured at the stadium and died at a local hospital.

The incident is under investigation. The Air Force base did not release the service member’s identity.

As part of a pregame ceremony for UTSA’s annual Salute to Armed Forces & Veterans game, four officers were set to rappel down to the field 15 minutes before kickoff. The officer appeared to lose control while descending, sliding down the line and crashing to the turf.

Medical personnel immediately attended to the officer, and he was taken from the Alamodome on a stretcher and transported to the hospital.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight’s game,” UTSA said in a statement. “Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues.”

The school said it was activating well-being services to support faculty, staff, and students who might be emotionally affected by the incident.

The game was played after kickoff time was delayed by 10 minutes.

Information from ESPN’s Max Olson and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Fairbairn’s last-second 49-yard FG gives Texans 34-31 win over Jaguars at Wembley Stadium

0

LONDON — Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired, C.J. Stroud threw three touchdown passes, and the Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-31 on the slick grass of Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Cam Little’s 60-yard field goal had tied the game at 31-31 with just under two minutes left after Travis Hunter intercepted Stroud’s pass in the end zone.

Hunter also hauled in a 7-yard touchdown pass at the other end — becoming just the fifth player in the Super Bowl era, including the playoffs, to both score a touchdown and intercept a pass in the same game.

Marvin Harrison Jr. made his debut for the Texans (2-4), making three catches as Houston earned back-to-back wins to gain ground on the AFC South-leading Jaguars (4-2).

Tight end Foster Moreau caught two touchdown passes from Stroud, who also connected with Jaylin Noel for a 13-yard score in the third quarter for a 24-14 lead.

Moreau scored on a 6-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and a 1-yarder just before the end of the half.

Penalties dogged the Jaguars for a third straight week. They were flagged for too many men on the field on a Houston punt — extending a Texans drive that ended with Noel’s touchdown.

Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdown passes, including a pair to Bhayshul Tuten. His 1-yard pass to rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher cut Houston’s lead to 24-21.

Houston responded with Jawhar Jordan’s 25-yard touchdown to restore a 10-point lead, 31-21, late in the third quarter.

Two-way star Hunter, who scored his first NFL touchdown at Wembley a year ago, snagged his second when he hauled in a pass over the middle to reduce Houston’s lead to 31-28 in the fourth quarter.

Hunter’s interception led to Jacksonville’s drive and Little’s game-tying field goal.

Stroud completed 24 of 34 passes for 312 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The interception was his first of the season.

Harrison, who joined the Texans this week in a trade with Arizona, made three catches for 34 yards. Woody Marks had 15 carries for 56 yards, the first running back to break 40 yards in a game this season against Jacksonville.

Lawrence finished 24 of 41 for 306 yards, four TDs and an interception.

Slippery surface

Early rain made the Wembley grass slippery — and not just for players. Umpire Larry Smith slipped and hurt his knee in the first quarter. He left on a cart.

Houston receiver Nico Collins changed cleats for longer spikes in first half. Tight end Dalton Schultz made a third down catch in the red zone but slipped just before the first down marker. The Texans opted for Fairbairn’s 25-yard field for a 10-7 lead.

Injuries

Texans: LB Azeez Al-Shaair was evaluated for a concussion in the second quarter, headed to the locker room afterward, and returned in the third quarter … S Reed Blankenship also left in the first half.

Jaguars: RB Ameer Abdullah was helped off after a kickoff return. He later came back into the game…. All-Pro long snapper Ross Matiscik (shoulder) had been ruled out Friday, replaced by newly signed Jacob Bobenmoyer.

Houston Texans Arrive in London and Practice Ahead of Jaguars Game

0

The Houston Texans arrived in London Friday morning before practicing at Harrow School in the city’s northwest suburbs. The team is preparing to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Houston completed the workout only hours after its overnight flight from Texas. The Texans are seeking their second straight victory after defeating the Tennessee Titans in Week 5.

Texans Arrive in London After Travel Delay

The Texans left Houston Thursday evening after completing most of their weekly preparation at home. However, the team encountered a delay before beginning the transatlantic flight.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans said the Texans had to change planes because of an unspecified issue. The team eventually boarded another aircraft and arrived safely Friday morning.

“We got the right plane. Everybody is safe and well, so that’s all that matters,” Ryans said after practice.

The Texans previously planned for an approximately eight-and-a-half-hour flight. Coaches encouraged players to sleep during the trip and begin adjusting to London’s six-hour time difference.

Houston followed a travel plan similar to the one used during its 2019 visit. The Texans arrived two days before that game and defeated Jacksonville 26-3 at Wembley Stadium.

Houston Texans Practice at Harrow School

After checking into their hotel, the Texans traveled to Harrow School for Friday’s practice. The historic school is among the oldest educational institutions in the United Kingdom.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud participated in the workout alongside Houston’s available offensive players. He said the extended travel time gave teammates another opportunity to connect.

“Practice was really good today,” Stroud said.

The Texans moved Friday’s practice back one hour following the travel delay. Ryans said the players responded well despite the unusual schedule.

Houston will hold its normal Saturday walkthrough before traveling to Wembley for Sunday’s game.

Key Players Ruled Out for Sunday

The Texans traveled without wide receiver Tank Dell, running back David Montgomery and safety Jalen Pitre. All three players have been ruled out against Jacksonville.

Dell is dealing with a knee injury, while Montgomery has a groin injury. Pitre will miss the game because of a shoulder injury.

Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and offensive tackle Trent Brown were full participants Friday. Safety Ja’Marcus Ingram and linebacker Henry To’oTo’o remain questionable.

Newly acquired receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. practiced with the team and is expected to make his Texans debut. Harrison recently joined Houston in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals.

Harrison reunites with Stroud after the pair played together at Ohio State. Ryans said coaches will give the receiver specific assignments while he continues learning Houston’s offense.

Texans Face Important AFC South Test

The Texans enter the game with a 1-4 record. Jacksonville leads the AFC South at 4-1 after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in London last weekend.

The Jaguars remained in England between games, giving them a full week to adjust. However, Ryans said the Texans must focus on execution instead of the different travel schedules.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Central Time and 2:30 p.m. in London. NFL Network will broadcast the game.

Houston will return home immediately afterward and begin preparing for its Week 7 matchup against the New York Giants.

Olivia Rodrigo With Chappell Roan, and Tate McRae Lead New Music Friday Releases

0

New Music Friday brings major releases from Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, Tate McRae, Zach Bryan and Angèle. The Oct. 16 lineup includes two pop singles, a country EP and a full-length French-language pop album.

The releases span several genres while featuring collaborations with Lana Del Rey, Turnpike Troubadours, Caroline Polachek and other artists.

Olivia Rodrigo Features Chappell Roan on ‘Expectations’

Olivia Rodrigo has released a new version of “expectations” featuring Chappell Roan. The original song appeared on Rodrigo’s third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

The remix marks Roan’s first official appearance as a featured artist. Daniel Nigro, a longtime collaborator with both singers, produced the track.

Roan adds a new verse that approaches the song’s romantic themes from a queer perspective. Her contribution expands the story while retaining the original production’s pop foundation.

Bardia Zeinali directed the accompanying music video. Rodrigo and Roan compete as different characters on a fictional retro program called “The Big Expectations Show.”

The video references television game shows from the 1980s and 1990s. Talking Heads frontman David Byrne appears as a host, while Nigro makes a cameo.

Tate McRae Returns With ‘Housewife’

Tate McRae begins a new musical chapter with “Housewife”, a three-minute pop single released through RCA Records.

The song reverses traditional expectations surrounding its title. McRae presents independence and financial control as the foundations of her ideal life.

An accompanying video combines choreography with scenes inside a mansion and aboard a boat. The story follows a relationship that becomes increasingly controlling before McRae’s character chooses independence.

“Housewife” follows McRae’s recent run of dance-oriented pop releases. The single also arrives with her first music video of the new era.

Zach Bryan Releases Eight-Song EP

Zach Bryan expands his 2026 catalog with Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs. The eight-song EP runs approximately 29 minutes.

Lana Del Rey joins Bryan on “Lies.” Oklahoma country band Turnpike Troubadours appears on “Plainsman.”

The project also includes “Dog Days” and songs examining relationships, betrayal and personal change. Bryan released the EP through Belting Bronco Records and Warner Records.

The collection follows With Heaven on Top, Bryan’s 25-track studio album released in January. It gives the singer-songwriter his second major project of the year.

Angèle Follows Her ‘Instinct’

Belgian singer Angèle has released Instinct, her third studio album. The 13-track project moves deeper into electronic music and club-oriented production.

Angèle described the album as a personal journal covering the previous three years. The record includes material performed in French and English.

The album’s collaborators include Justice, Soulwax, Caroline Polachek and French producer SebastiAn. “What You Want” features Justice, while “Love Triangle” pairs Angèle with Polachek and SebastiAn.

Other previously released tracks include “Dis-le” and “Une seule vie.” Angèle issued the album through GGL Records and Sony Music.

Together, this week’s releases offer new choices across pop, country and European electronic music. All four projects are now available through major streaming platforms.

Movies Releasing This Weekend: ‘Street Fighter,’ ‘Whalefall’ and More

0

Moviegoers have several new choices arriving in theaters Friday, Oct. 16. The movies releasing this weekend include action, survival, romance and several notable documentaries.

Three films will receive wide releases across North America. A new Elizabeth Holmes documentary and several international productions will also open in select theaters.

Movies Releasing This Weekend Nationwide

‘Street Fighter’

The latest adaptation of Capcom’s fighting game brings its international roster of combatants back to theaters. The story takes place in 1993 and follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters.

Chun-Li recruits the pair for the World Warrior Tournament. However, the competition soon becomes a dangerous clash involving a larger conspiracy.

Andrew Koji stars as Ryu, while Noah Centineo plays Ken. Callina Liang portrays Chun-Li. The large cast also includes Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, David Dastmalchian, 50 Cent and Orville Peck.

Kitao Sakurai directed the PG-13 action film. Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures are distributing the movie.

‘Whalefall’

“Whalefall” follows Jay Gardiner, a scuba diver searching for his late father’s remains off California’s central coast. His mission takes a terrifying turn when a massive sperm whale swallows him.

Jay has only one hour of oxygen. To survive, he must use the difficult lessons taught by his father, a respected but controlling diver.

Austin Abrams leads the film as Jay. Josh Brolin plays his father, Mitt. The cast also features Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd.

Brian Duffield directed and co-wrote the PG-13 survival thriller with Daniel Kraus. The movie is based on Kraus’ 2023 novel of the same name.

‘Sense and Sensibility’

“Sense and Sensibility” offers a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. The story centers on Elinor and Marianne Dashwood after their family loses its fortune.

Daisy Edgar-Jones plays the practical Elinor. Esmé Creed-Miles portrays her more expressive sister, Marianne. Their relationship anchors the story as both women face financial pressure, social expectations and romance.

Georgia Oakley directed the film from a screenplay by Diana Reid. Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, George MacKay and Fiona Shaw round out the cast.

Focus Features has rated the romance and drama PG.

Oppenheim and Fielder Examine Elizabeth Holmes

“You Can See Everything” is a new documentary from directors Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder. The A24 release follows disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes during the final weeks before she entered federal prison.

Holmes invited a film crew into her home 34 days before beginning her sentence. What starts as an intimate portrait develops into a three-year examination of identity, performance and control.

Fielder also appears in the documentary as he tries to understand Holmes and the version of herself presented to the camera. The film runs two hours and 55 minutes.

“You Can See Everything” opens in theaters Oct. 16. Availability may vary because the documentary is not receiving the same wide release as the weekend’s three major studio films.

More Documentaries and Limited Releases

“La Bola Negra” opens in select theaters through Netflix. Directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi tell the interconnected stories of three gay men across different periods of Spanish history.

The Spanish-language drama stars Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. Its story examines desire, loss and queer identity across generations.

“Musk,” directed by Alex Gibney, also begins a limited theatrical run. The four-hour documentary examines Elon Musk’s life, career and influence in business and technology.

“Once Upon a Time in Harlem” arrives in select locations as well. David Greaves completed the documentary from footage filmed by his father, William Greaves, in 1972. The project captures a gathering of Harlem Renaissance figures at Duke Ellington’s former townhouse.

The weekend lineup provides choices ranging from familiar franchises to historical dramas and unconventional nonfiction filmmaking. Moviegoers should check local listings because limited-release titles may not play in every market.
