The Mexico vs England World Cup match delivered one of the most dramatic nights of the 2026 tournament. England defeated Mexico 3-2 in the Round of 16 at Mexico City Stadium, also known as Estadio Azteca.

The result ended Mexico’s run as co-hosts. England advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face Norway in Miami.

Mexico vs England World Cup Match Turns Early

England took control in the first half behind Jude Bellingham. The midfielder scored twice in quick succession to give England a 2-0 lead.

Mexico answered before halftime through Julián Quiñones. His goal cut the deficit to 2-1 and brought energy back into the home crowd.

The match carried extra weight for El Tri. Mexico entered the knockout round with strong form and the support of a packed national crowd.

Red Card Changes the Second Half

The second half shifted when England defender Jarell Quansah received a red card in the 54th minute. England had to protect its lead with 10 players for the rest of the match.

Harry Kane later scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-1. That goal gave England needed breathing room.

Mexico kept pushing. Raúl Jiménez converted a penalty in the 69th minute to make it 3-2 and set up a tense finish.

Mexico Pushes Until the Final Whistle

Mexico sent numbers forward in the final minutes. England dropped deeper and relied on its defense to clear repeated crosses and late pressure.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and England’s back line held firm. Mexico could not find the equalizer despite a long stretch of added time.

For Mexico fans, the loss brought a painful end to a memorable tournament. El Tri played with urgency and pride, but England’s early goals proved decisive.

What Comes Next

England’s win sends the team into a quarterfinal matchup against Norway. That game is scheduled for Saturday in Miami.

Mexico exits the tournament after helping host the expanded 2026 World Cup across North America. The match will stand as one of the most emotional moments of the knockout round.

For Latino soccer fans across Texas, the result was a tough ending but also a reminder of Mexico’s strong place on the world stage. El Tri’s run brought national pride, full stadiums, and a knockout match that will be remembered long after the final whistle.

Houston Motel Murder-Suicide Near NRG Stadium Leaves Mother and Two Children Dead

A Houston motel murder-suicide near NRG Stadium left a mother and her two young children dead Friday, according to the Houston Police Department. Authorities said the three were found inside a room at the Residence Inn by Marriott on Kirby Drive.

The shooting was reported at 11:43 a.m. Friday, July 3, at 7807 Kirby Drive in southwest Houston. Police said the case remains under investigation.

Houston Motel Murder-Suicide Reported Friday

Officials said the woman was 40 years old. Her children were identified by age only as a 9-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl.

According to investigators, the woman checked into the motel on Wednesday. Maintenance workers went to check on the room Friday morning and found the door locked from the inside.

When workers entered the room, they found the woman dead from what police described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The two children were also found dead with gunshot wounds.

Houston Fire Department officials said the woman fatally shot the children before turning the gun on herself. Authorities have not released the names of the mother or children.

Investigation Continues Near NRG Stadium

The motel is located near NRG Stadium, a busy area that includes hotels, restaurants, apartments, and major event traffic. Police responded to the scene Friday as investigators worked to determine the timeline.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting. They also have not released information about any prior calls for service connected to the family or motel room.

In cases involving children, officials often wait to release names until relatives are notified. Investigators may also review surveillance video, hotel records, and other evidence before sharing additional details.

Police described the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide. That classification can change if investigators uncover new evidence.

Community Impact and Support Resources

The deaths add to a painful pattern of family violence cases reported across the Houston area in recent months. However, police have not publicly linked this case to domestic violence or any specific motive.

Incidents involving children often have a wide emotional impact. They affect relatives, first responders, hotel staff, neighbors, and the broader community.

Mental health and crisis support remain available for people facing suicidal thoughts or emotional distress. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline can be reached by calling or texting 988 at any time.

People facing abuse or threats at home can contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. Help is also available by texting START to 88788.

Anyone in immediate danger should call 911.

What Officials Have Confirmed

Police have confirmed that three people died inside the motel room. The victims were a mother and her two children.

Officials said the room was locked from the inside when maintenance workers arrived. Investigators said the mother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities also confirmed that both children had gunshot wounds. The case is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide.

The Houston Police Department is expected to release more information if investigators identify additional public details. For now, the case remains a developing investigation.

The Houston motel murder-suicide is a tragedy involving a mother, two children, and a community left searching for answers. Families in crisis are urged to seek help early, especially when children may be at risk.

Ruby Princess Norovirus Outbreak Sickens 125 Passengers and Crew

A Ruby Princess norovirus outbreak sickened 125 passengers and crew members during a 20-day cruise from San Francisco to Canada and Alaska, federal health officials said. The Princess Cruises ship returned to San Francisco on Thursday, July 2, after the illness spread during the voyage.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 102 passengers and 23 crew members became ill. The ship carried 3,032 passengers and 1,144 crew members during the trip.

Ruby Princess Norovirus Outbreak Reported to CDC

The Ruby Princess departed San Francisco on June 12 for a round-trip cruise to Canada and Alaska. The outbreak was reported to the CDC during the voyage.

Health officials said the illness did not affect all sick passengers and crew at the same time. Some people became ill earlier in the trip, while others reported symptoms later.

The CDC lists the causative agent as norovirus. The agency tracks cruise ship gastrointestinal illness outbreaks through its Vessel Sanitation Program.

Cruise ships must report certain illness cases to the CDC. Public outbreak notices are posted when at least 3% of passengers or crew report gastrointestinal symptoms on voyages under CDC jurisdiction.

Symptoms and Health Concerns

Norovirus is a highly contagious stomach virus. It often spreads through contaminated food, surfaces, water, or close contact with an infected person.

Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and nausea. The CDC says symptoms can also include fever, headache, and body aches.

For many people, norovirus symptoms last a few days. However, the illness can be more serious for older adults, young children, and people with underlying health conditions.

Dehydration is one of the main risks. Health officials urge people with severe symptoms to seek medical care, especially if they cannot keep fluids down.

Princess Cruises Responds With Cleaning Measures

Princess Cruises said crew members responded by increasing sanitation measures across the ship. The company also said the vessel would be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before its next departure.

The CDC said outbreak response steps can include isolating sick passengers and crew, collecting health samples, and reviewing cleaning procedures. Cruise lines may also increase disinfection in high-touch areas.

The Ruby Princess outbreak is one of several cruise ship gastrointestinal illness outbreaks reported by the CDC in 2026. Most listed outbreaks this year have involved norovirus.

The CDC also reported recent norovirus outbreaks on other cruise ships, including the Caribbean Princess and Star Princess. Both are also operated by Princess Cruises.

How Travelers Can Reduce Risk

Health officials say handwashing remains one of the best ways to prevent norovirus. Soap and water work better than hand sanitizer alone against the virus.

Passengers should wash their hands after using the restroom and before eating or drinking. They should also avoid sharing utensils, cups, or food with anyone who feels sick.

Travelers who develop symptoms should report them to the ship’s medical staff. Quick reporting helps crews limit the spread of illness.

The Ruby Princess norovirus outbreak serves as a reminder that stomach viruses can spread quickly in crowded settings. Passengers preparing for summer travel should follow health guidance, report symptoms early, and take basic precautions before and during a cruise.

Lewis Hamilton Claims Sprint Pole at British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton sprint pole headlines the British Grand Prix weekend after the Ferrari driver topped Sprint Qualifying at Silverstone on Friday, July 3, 2026. Hamilton delivered a 1:28.376 lap to secure first place for Saturday’s sprint race.

The seven-time world champion beat Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli by just 0.011 seconds. Max Verstappen qualified third for Red Bull, setting up a competitive front group at one of Formula 1’s most historic circuits.

Lewis Hamilton Sprint Pole Energizes Silverstone Crowd

Hamilton’s result gave the home crowd a major moment to celebrate. The British driver has long been closely tied to Silverstone, where he has built some of the biggest wins of his Formula 1 career.

The sprint pole also marked a strong statement for Ferrari. Silverstone is a fast, demanding track that rewards balance, power, and confidence through high-speed corners.

Hamilton showed pace throughout Sprint Qualifying. According to Formula 1, he topped each segment before taking pole in the final run.

Antonelli and Verstappen Stay Close

Antonelli came within a fraction of taking sprint pole for Mercedes. His second-place result keeps him in strong position for the sprint start.

Verstappen followed in third, giving Red Bull a clear chance to challenge early. Charles Leclerc placed fourth for Ferrari, while George Russell qualified fifth for Mercedes.

That order puts Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull together at the front. The short sprint format leaves little room for recovery, so the opening lap could shape the result.

British Grand Prix Weekend Continues

The sprint race is separate from the main British Grand Prix. It offers points, but drivers still must qualify for Sunday’s Grand Prix in a separate session.

Hamilton’s sprint pole gives Ferrari momentum before the rest of the weekend. It also adds another chapter to his long history at Silverstone.

For fans, the result creates a dramatic storyline. A British driver will start first in a Ferrari at the British Grand Prix sprint, with Mercedes and Red Bull close behind.

The weekend now turns to whether Hamilton can convert pole into a sprint win. His pace on Friday showed Ferrari has the speed to fight at the front.

Disneyland Welcomes One Billionth Guest During Historic Anaheim Celebration

Disneyland Resort marked a major milestone on July 3, 2026, by welcoming its honorary one billionth guest at Disneyland Park. The moment came as the Anaheim resort continues its 70th Celebration and as the United States prepares for its 250th anniversary.

The Disneyland one billionth guest was 8-year-old Andres Robles of Arizona, who visited the park with his parents, Alejandra and Jose Robles. The family took part in a special ceremony on Main Street, U.S.A., alongside Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Disneyland One Billionth Guest Honored on Main Street

The Robles family helped unveil an updated Disneyland Park sign reading “Population 1,000,000,000.” The ceremony took place at the Main Street, U.S.A., train station platform.

Andres Robles was also celebrating his 8th birthday during the visit. The milestone turned a family trip into a historic moment for one of the world’s most recognized theme parks.

As part of the celebration, the family received a VIP tour guide for the day. Their experience included a tour of Walt Disney’s private apartment, a visit to the newly opened Soarin’ Across America attraction, and other special Disneyland Resort experiences.

A Milestone for Walt Disney’s Original Park

Disneyland Park opened on July 17, 1955. Walt Disney described his vision as a place where parents and children could have fun together.

More than 70 years later, Disneyland Resort continues to build on that original idea. The park helped shape the modern theme park industry through immersive design, detailed storytelling, and family-focused entertainment.

Disneyland has become a destination for birthdays, vacations, reunions, anniversaries, and family traditions. The one billionth guest milestone reflects decades of visits from generations of families.

Jill Estorino, President of Disneyland Resort, called the moment “a remarkable milestone” and said it reflects the generations of guests who have made the resort part of their lives.

“For more than 70 years, Walt’s original park has been a timeless symbol of Disney storytelling, where memories are made and shared,” Estorino said.

Disneyland Resort Continues to Grow

Disneyland Resort began as a single theme park in Anaheim, California. Today, it includes Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney District.

The resort’s hotels include Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Disneyland Hotel, and Pixar Place Hotel. The resort remains open daily and year-round.

Disneyland also helped inspire Disney theme parks and experiences around the world. Its original model continues to influence entertainment, attractions, guest service, and themed design across the industry.

The resort says its next era will focus on imagination, technology, creativity, and craftsmanship. That approach reflects Walt Disney’s well-known belief that Disneyland would continue to grow as long as imagination remained in the world.

For the Robles family, the visit became more than a birthday celebration. It marked a place in Disneyland history and highlighted the park’s lasting role in family memories.

Guests planning visits can find current ticket, reservation, and park information at Disneyland.com. Theme park admission requires both a valid ticket and a reservation for the same park on the same date.

A historic milestone is made at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., on Friday, July 3, 2026; The Happiest Place on Earth commemorates welcoming one billion guests to Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park. Man charged after posting videos of himself attacking people with ‘high-powered’ water guns

0

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man is facing charges after he allegedly posted videos of himself soaking people with “high-powered” water guns.

Houston police say the Christopher Cayce arrest followed an investigation into videos that showed people being sprayed with water guns in public. Authorities charged the 34-year-old with two counts of assault causing bodily injury after identifying him as the suspect in multiple incidents.

The Houston Police Department announced the arrest on Thursday. Investigators linked the videos to a Facebook page associated with Cayce.

HPD Files Assault Charges

The Houston Police Department’s Major Offenders Division and Westside Crime Suppression Team investigated the reported incidents. Detectives identified Christopher Cayce as the suspect and filed two assault causing bodily injury charges.

Harris County court records show prosecutors filed the charges on July 2.

As of Friday morning, Cayce had posted bond. However, online jail records still listed him in custody. The charges are allegations, and Cayce remains presumed innocent unless a court finds him guilty.

Videos Show People Targeted Across Houston

Police say the videos show people being sprayed in the face or soaked with water. The incidents occurred near bus stops, on sidewalks, and where some victims were sleeping outdoors.

According to HPD, some victims have disabilities or were experiencing homelessness.

The videos appear to show incidents in Midtown and along Bissonnet Street. Investigators believe other locations may also be connected to the case.

Public Reacts to the Social Media Posts

The videos attracted thousands of views and likes on social media. Many viewers, however, criticized the behavior and described it as cruel.

Police say the incidents involved real victims, not harmless pranks. The case has also renewed discussion about creating online content that targets vulnerable people for entertainment.

Advocates for people experiencing homelessness say these incidents can make public spaces feel even less safe. They also stress the importance of treating every person with dignity and respect.

Investigation Remains Active

The Harris County court system will now handle the criminal case. Future hearings will determine the next steps.

Houston police have not said whether they expect to file additional charges. Investigators continue to review the reported incidents and the videos.

Anyone with information about similar incidents can contact the Houston Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Houston.

The Christopher Cayce arrest has drawn attention across Houston and sparked conversations about public safety, accountability, and the impact of social media content.

The best Fourth of July movies mix patriotism, history, summer nostalgia and big-screen fun. Whether the plan is a family movie night, a backyard gathering or a quiet evening after fireworks, these films fit the Independence Day mood.

Classic Summer Movie Choices

Not every July 4 movie has to be about politics or war. Some films simply feel like summer.

Jaws is one of the most famous holiday weekend movies because its story unfolds around the Fourth of July. The suspense classic remains a seasonal favorite for older viewers.

Forrest Gump follows one man through major moments in American history. The film blends humor, drama and nostalgia across several decades.

Apollo 13 is another strong pick. The true story of a NASA mission in crisis highlights teamwork, courage and problem-solving.

A League of Their Own brings sports, history and humor together through the story of women’s professional baseball during World War II.

Serious Patriotic Films

For viewers looking for a heavier film, Born on the Fourth of July is one of the most direct holiday choices. The film stars Tom Cruise as Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic and explores service, injury and activism.

Saving Private Ryan is another powerful option. Its World War II story is intense and not suited for young children, but it remains one of the most respected war films ever made.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington offers a classic view of American idealism. The 1939 film still speaks to questions about government, honesty and public service.

The best Fourth of July movies depend on the audience. Families may prefer The Sandlot or National Treasure, while adults may choose Jaws, Lincoln or Independence Day. Together, these films offer a mix of fun, history and reflection for the holiday.

4th of July Tech Sales Include Big TV Discounts

TVs are one of the strongest categories in this year’s holiday sales. Best Buy is promoting discounts across budget screens, gaming TVs and premium OLED models.

TechRadar reported that Best Buy’s Fourth of July sale includes up to 45% off several categories, including TVs, laptops, headphones and appliances. One highlighted deal was the 65-inch LG C5 OLED TV for $1,299.99, down from $2,699.99.

The Verge also pointed to the LG C5 OLED as one of the better July 4 deals. The model includes a 120Hz panel and HDMI 2.1 ports, which makes it a strong choice for sports, streaming and gaming.

Shoppers looking for lower prices may also find deals on Hisense, Samsung and Sony TVs. However, prices can change quickly during holiday weekends.

Apple Deals Stand Out This Weekend

Apple products rarely see deep discounts, but several deals are available this weekend. The Verge listed the 11-inch iPad Air M3 at $499, down from $749.

Apple AirTags are also discounted at several retailers. Best Buy listed a four-pack of second-generation AirTags at $89.99, down from $99.99.

AirTags can be useful for luggage, backpacks and keys. They may be especially helpful for families traveling during the summer.

Best Buy is also advertising savings on MacBooks, iPads and other Apple devices. Shoppers should compare prices across Amazon and Best Buy before buying, since Apple deals often match across major retailers.

Laptops and Tablets Offer Back-to-School Value

The holiday weekend also brings early back-to-school laptop deals. Best Buy’s sale includes laptops starting under $200, according to TechRadar.

One deal highlighted by TechRadar was the HP OmniBook 3 at $549.99, down from $949.99. The model includes a 14-inch display, Snapdragon X processor, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Smart home shoppers should check Ring, Arlo, Google Nest and Amazon device deals. These products often see short-term markdowns around holiday weekends.

How to Shop the Sales Wisely

Not every holiday discount is a great deal. Shoppers should check the original price, compare across retailers and avoid buying based only on a percentage-off label.

It also helps to look at return windows, delivery dates and warranty coverage. Some of the best-looking deals may come from third-party sellers with different policies.

For bigger purchases, such as TVs and laptops, shoppers should confirm model numbers. Similar names can hide major differences in screen quality, memory, storage or refresh rate.

The best 4th of July tech sales this weekend are strongest for TVs, Apple accessories, laptops, headphones and smart home devices. Shoppers who compare prices and act before Sunday may find some of the best tech discounts of the summer.

Houston ISD Launches Reading Programs to Help Elementary Students Build Early Literacy Skills

Houston ISD is expanding early literacy support for elementary students as the district works to improve reading skills before third grade. The new Houston ISD reading programs include Kinder Bridge, targeted instruction and a summer reading intensive for young students who need extra help.

Houston ISD Reading Programs Focus on Early Grades

The district said the goal is to make sure students entering third grade in 2028 can read on grade level. HISD leaders said third grade is a key point in a child’s education because reading affects every subject.

The new efforts will focus on kindergarten through second grade students. HISD said some campuses will receive added literacy support beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Deputy Superintendent Kristen Hole said the district wants to help struggling readers before gaps become harder to close. HISD said students who reach third grade without strong reading skills can struggle in math, science and social studies.

Kinder Bridge Adds Extra Support Before First Grade

One major part of the plan is Kinder Bridge. HISD describes it as a structured bridge year between kindergarten and first grade.

Kinder Bridge will use kindergarten and first grade standards. The district said the program is designed to build academic and social skills before students move into first grade.

Some students may be strongly recommended or required to attend Kinder Bridge if reading assessments show they are well below grade level. HISD said families may also choose to opt in if they believe the program fits their child’s needs.

The program will be offered at select elementary campuses, including Blackshear, Elmore, Hilliard, Smith, C. Martinez, Bonham and Shadydale elementary schools.

Reading Assessments Will Help Identify Students

HISD will use early reading assessments to identify students who need support. The district listed DIBELS and ROAR as tools used to measure early literacy skills.

DIBELS stands for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills. ROAR stands for Rapid Online Assessment of Reading.

These assessments help educators track how students are developing key reading skills. Those skills include phonics, word reading, spelling and early writing.

HISD said kindergarten and first grade students who are below grade level will receive targeted instruction aligned with the Science of Reading. That approach focuses on how children learn to read through skills such as sounds, letters, decoding and comprehension.

Summer Reading Intensive Planned for Rising Second Graders

The district is also offering a Summer Reading Intensive for rising second graders. HISD said the 22-day program is for students scoring well below in reading on DIBELS.

The summer program will focus on phonics, reading words, spelling and early writing. Students will work in small groups, giving teachers more time to provide direct support.

HISD said hundreds of students have already started participating in the summer support opportunity.

During the school year, select rising second graders who are not reading on grade level will also receive added in-school support.

Literacy Push Comes With Questions

The district’s plan has drawn attention from parents and education advocates. Some have questioned how Kinder Bridge will affect young students and whether the effort is tied to state testing.

Third grade is the first year Texas students take the STAAR exam. HISD officials said the plan is focused on early learning and long-term academic success.

The district is also recommending a second-to-third grade literacy promotion standard. HISD said that proposal would take effect in summer 2028 and would require board approval.

For families, the main takeaway is that HISD is moving reading support earlier. The district says the added programs are designed to help students build confidence, close gaps and enter third grade ready for stronger academic work.

METRO bus involved in multi-vehicle crash, 7 people taken to hospitals

0

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A METRO bus and four other cars were involved in a multi-vehicle crash on the south side of Houston, and at least seven people were hospitalized as a result, according to the Houston Fire Department.

A Thursday afternoon crash involving a METRO bus left several people injured in south Houston. The Almeda Road METRO bus crash happened around 4 p.m. in the 11000 block of Almeda Road, according to fire officials.

Almeda Road METRO Bus Crash Under Investigation

Fire officials said seven people were taken to different hospitals after the wreck. They did not release additional details about their conditions.

METRO Police gave a different breakdown of the reported injuries. According to METRO Police, nine bus passengers reported injuries after the crash.

Only one of those passengers was hospitalized, METRO Police said. That person had injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities did not immediately release the names or ages of those involved. No fatalities were reported in the available updates.

Police Say Driver Tried to Leave the Scene

According to METRO Police, the driver of another vehicle hit the METRO bus. Police said that driver then attempted to flee the scene.

The driver was later taken into custody by the Houston Police Department, METRO Police said.

Officials did not immediately say what charges the driver may face. Investigators also did not release details about what led to the crash.

The wreck caused an emergency response along Almeda Road as police and firefighters worked at the scene. Drivers in the area likely faced delays while crews assisted injured passengers and cleared the roadway.

Injury Reports Differ by Agency

The early injury numbers showed differences between fire and transit police reports. Fire officials said seven people were transported to hospitals.

METRO Police said nine passengers reported injuries, but only one passenger was hospitalized. The agency described that passenger’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

That difference may reflect people from other vehicles, precautionary transports or separate agency reporting. Officials had not provided a full explanation as of the latest available reports.

In crashes involving buses and several vehicles, injury counts can change as investigators confirm who was treated at the scene and who went to a hospital.

Houston Transit Safety Questions Continue

The crash adds to safety concerns around busy Houston roadways and public transit corridors. METRO buses often travel through high-traffic areas where sudden lane changes, speeding and distracted driving can raise risks.

Authorities have not said whether speed, impairment or distraction played a role in Thursday’s crash.

METRO Police and Houston police are expected to review the circumstances of the wreck. Investigators may use witness statements, vehicle damage and nearby traffic cameras to determine what happened.

Public transit crashes can affect more than the people inside the vehicles. They can also disrupt nearby traffic, bus routes and emergency response times.

What Happens Next

Houston police had the driver in custody after the crash, according to METRO Police. More information may be released once investigators complete their initial review.

Anyone who saw the crash or has useful information should contact the appropriate law enforcement agency. Official updates from METRO Police or HPD should be used for the latest details.

The Almeda Road METRO bus crash remains under investigation. The main public takeaway is clear: several people were hurt, one bus passenger was hospitalized, and police say the driver accused of hitting the bus tried to leave before being taken into custody.
