Ganado ISD closed on Friday after several students call out sick, district says

GANADO, Texas (KTRK) — Leaders say a stomach bug is racing through Ganado Elementary School and the district is closing all of its campuses Friday to contain it.

Ganado ISD posted on social media that more than 90 elementary students either missed school or were sent home since Wednesday.

That’s about a quarter of the school’s total enrollment.

Ganado ISD, 90 minutes southwest of Houston in Jackson County, has only three schools and fewer than 800 students.

Superintendent Jonathan Szymanski told Eyewitness News he closed the schools so the bug could run its course and so that staff can deep clean classrooms ahead of finals next week.
